While I'm downloading the new release, here a copy of the link & list of new features for those who want to stay up to date as well:

quote:
What's New

Here's what's new in this release of Firefox:

  • Live Bookmarks

You can now subscribe to and read RSS feeds in your Bookmarks. When you visit a page that advertises a RSS feed by using a <link> tag, a RSS icon will appear in the status bar. Click it to view a list of feeds the page is offering. Click one to subscribe - this adds a Bookmark Folder that contains all the recent posts from the feed.

  • Improved Find

Find is easier and more powerful now with our new Find toolbar. The Find toolbar (which shows at the bottom of the browser window) automatically highlights text in the page as you type and has a useful highlight feature.

  • Managing Annoyances and Protecting Security

You can now open blocked popups, and the Extension install system now blocks all attempts to install software from sites other than update.mozilla.org. Users can add other sites to a list that allows them to offer software, but software is never automatically installed. In addition to these steps, several other measures have been taken to prevent phishing attacks and to highlight when a page is being viewed over a secure connection.

  • Better Bookmarks

Numerous improvements to bookmarks including more reliable presentation of Site icons, and a split pane view in the Bookmarks window.

  • Strong Encryption For Passwords Available

Passwords saved with the Password Manager can now be more easily encrypted with strong encryption by creating a "Master Password". If you create a Master Password, you are prompted once per session to enter the Master Password so that Password Manager can automatically fill in site logins. A useful feature for people who share computers with others and want improved security.

  • Improved Compatibility for IE users

Undetectable document.all support for site compatibility and improved compatibility for keyboard accelerators further smooth the transition for IE users

  • Better System Integration for GNOME users

You can now configure Firefox as your Default Browser on GNOME, and Firefox will adhere to your GNOME settings for edit field key bindings, etc.

  • And a horde of other bug fixes...

And mozilla.org also got redesigned recently - cool.

Heh. I think Mozilla might be racing towards the real work: moz2.0. Once ff1.0 is out of the way, it's time to start improving interfaces and remodeling the internal architecture. Change graphics toolkit, add native SVG rendering, change to a better unified GC, make smaller and faster core libraries, full scriptability through Python, JavaScript, Java and JavaScript2 etc.

I like the password manager.

Now maybe I'll let it save some of my logins.

Just downloaded and installed the 1.0PR versión, and apart from having some extensions disabled due to incompatibility (incompatibility said to be with version 0.10, not with version 1.0), it is working a treat. Will miss the EditCSS extension, thou.

Won't EditCSS soon be made available for ff1 anyway?

LaSun: There is a multitude of them. I would recommend:

- Russ Weakley's excellent resources over at http://css.maxdesign.com.au/.
- WDG's quick tutorial at http://www.htmlhelp.com/reference/css/
- Miraz Jordan's tutorial for beginners at http://wise-women.org/tutorials/csstut/
- Mike Hall's "Using Style Sheets" and "CSS Positioning" tutorials at http://www.brainjar.com/

Heh I've been a FireFox user since the time of 0.8 and I have to say - I'll never touch another browser ever again... This FF1.0PRE is an interesting development and I'll admit it does handle some sites a lot better... I seem to expierience more TimeOuts with this new FireFoxPRE tho... So I'll have to deal until 1.0F is released. Its great tho!

I've been at it since 0.7 I believe. Though that was more minor than major use. When 0.8 came, I was fully on the band-wagon.

I'm going to download 1.0 some time within the week.

I try to keep up with the latest releases of FF and TB. For some reason when I switched to FF1.0 it just....ends sometimes. No rhyme or reason to it, it just quits. I run linux so I am not sure if the windows version does it or not.

anyone else had that problem?
