it worked one day but not the next. not sure what happened except the note said TRILLIAN caused an error in IRC.dll ? several retries and one reinstall later, same message

any ideas on why a reinstall doesn't work? i

Can you write exactly what the error is saying?

Perhaps you can't go on IRC chats because of it?

When you reinstalled it did you delete (or move) your old trillian folder? Uninstalling usually doesn't delete a lot of program files that may be causing the problem.

I don't trust these multiple chat clients I preffer the original YIM and ICQ.

Although I think there's also one called GIM, why don't you try that. I don't have the link at hand but I think you can download it from SnapFiles.

well, I've been using SIM for the last few hours,
and it seems to work reasonably well, and connects to a multitude of networks.
I'll see how it holds up in the future.

You might want to try a reinstall after you clean up your registry. I've used trillian pro for a couple years now and haven't had trouble with it. Very strange problem.

I like CHATzilla...works great! I gave up on trillian...I need IM services, that can send data.

I've used Trillian for quite a while now, it works OK, but the big drawback with the free version is that I've never been able to send or receive files as WebShaman mentions. So I use msn messenger (6.2 version) for that. CHATzilla looks interesting, may give it a whirl.
Glad to see you got the glitch sorted velvetrose
