It's official -- you really do need that coffee in the morning and if you don't get it, you really are in withdrawal, researchers said on Wednesday.
I didn't knew the lack of caffeine could cause headache, nausea or even muscle pain. Are there some inmates addicted to caffeine to that point ?

YES.... So just back away from my french press slowly and no one gets hurt.

Coffee is one of my few remaining vices, or one of the true joys in life, it all depends on how you look at it. But one thing for sure: Life isn't real until that 3rd cup in the morning.

I used the term "addicted" to emphasize the physical symptoms depicted by the study.
Whatever, that study won't prevent me from enjoying a coffee after lunch.

I seem to be one of the few people who don't like coffee.

And really - isn't the fact that coffee is addictive...that caffeine is an addictive drug....an obvious thing? Nations full of people who literally are not themselves without coffee (or those who pound mountain dew by the case-load..), and this is a surprise to anyone??

C'mon....

It's just one of those things that is acceptable so people have turned it into a joke.

Even being a college student, I despise caffeine. I still drink caffinated beverages (Pepsi, Coke, the occasional Mountain Dew at LAN parties), but I stay away from constant intake and especially away from coffee.

i think coffee is yum.... i love a lot of the cafe variations of it and i love the smell of freshly roasted coffee beans mmmmm.

but i think 'having' to have coffee, and drinking up to 4 cups or more a day, aside from not being very healthy, is excessive and can almost be as bad as smoking when it comes to filthy habits.

my high school bio teacher had a mug of the stuff practically on the hour, every hour. he reeked of it. stale, rotting coffee smells bad enough when its not wafting off a forty-year-old man.

p.s. i only had one cup of coffee this morning and my last cigarette was yesterday morning. i'm allowed...

DL-44: yep, it's a well known fact that caffeine is a drug. But I didn't knew somebody could develop some physical symptoms of lack of. How many liters of coffee a day does it take to become physically dependant ?

I drink about 4 cups a day and if I go over 24 hrs without caffine I get very bad headaches. My vision gets a bit blurred and my balance is even worse than usual.

Guess that means I'm an addict, but hey- It's not a drug problem if you don't run out......

I'm in the boat with Slime and DL-44... I tried coffee twice.. Once when I was about 12, and once about a year ago... Hated it both times.

For my caffeine, I generally have a soda every now and then, and also I found these really neat mints... "Penguin" mints.. 3 of them combined has the same caffeine as a can of soda. 3-6 right before you go to class really helps ya pay attention.

I used to hate coffee with a passions. Finally i realized it was because I had never used any *good* coffee creamer. Oh man, that and some sugar makes a world of difference. Yummah!

But what really will rock yah are the Chocolate covered roasted coffee beans. Those will light you up like nothing else... except maybe a large amount of coffee (providing that you don't drink much coffee like myself). Oh, and even to coffee haters, they taste good.

I'm not much for coffee, but if I don't have my sweet tea I'm irritable. for those of you who don't know, to make a gallon of sweet tea you take 3 lipton tea bags and add to a few cups of boiling water, take off and let steep for 10-15 minutes, then add to about a cup-n-a-half to 2 cups of sugar and add water (*don't forget to stir*) let chill and drink iced... it's quite possibly the only thing I'd ever drink if not for my love of milk. so give it a try! I promise you won't be dissappointed

i love iced tea .. but i make it with blackcurrant herbal tea and so much sugar and frozen cranberry juice from concentrate that i don't know how much of it is really tea anymore ..

not that it really matters ....

And besides, for waking you up in the morning? A fresh apple beats a cup of coffee hands down.

I have been known to be *somewhat* cranky when I don't get my daily intake of caffeine (in the form of diet soda).

However, I never really knew what a hard core coffee drinker was until I got married. My wife's family drinks the stuff at all hours of the day, all day. Now, I'm game for a vanilla latte or three, but drinking coffee with meals is something I haven't really warmed to.

Coffee is my drug now...no more cigs *sniff, sniff*

Though I don't really notice, if I don't get my coffee...I just love the taste...and the routine...coffee in the morning, nice and slow wake-up...and the aroma...mmmmmhhh.

I normally drink 2 cups in the morning. Too much coffee, however, does tend to make me rather...high-strung.

I hate Coffee... I really, really, really hate it. I really do. However after reading that study, I have to agree with it. If I go without a Mountain Dew during the day AT ANY POINT I start trippin' out n shit.

I learned to love coffee in college... started with the sweet creamy lattes and now I'll only drink what I make at home... I hated the stuff for years!

But these days, I drink 2 cups in the morning and I'm good to go all day. If I don't get it, I have a headache by 3pm that day... I'm sure I could wean myself off of it with herbal tea or something, but I have discovered that I really like the taste of coffee with cream and sugar. It's one of my 2 little vices...

I don't like soda at all though. If it's the only thing around, I'll drink maybe half a coke or pepsi, but soda leaves me feeling thirsty still. If I need to actually quench my thirst, I drink water.

Coffee after 2 in the afternoon will keep me awake until midnight at least. That's the down side to caffeine - loss of precious sleep.

I usually drink coffe until my fingertips quiver slightly, then I back off for a couple of hours before the next cup... Seriousy, on a work day it's somewhere around 8-12 cups a day, weekends 4-5.

I know, I'm insane with coffee, but what the heck, I rarely drink, even more seldome get drunk, I quit smoking 5 months ago after a 25 year daily habit and I never ever do drugs (not counting coffe).

I figure this will give me some leeway
Besides, my brain wouldn't wake up before noon otherwise and I think my employer would see that as a disadvantage...

I usually have 1-2 cups a day. Waking up in the morning and brewing a cup of coffee for the drive into work and first class is part of my routine. It also gives that needed boost to be alert for my 8:30 classes. I don't eat breakfast (I haven't for about 10 years) nor do I usually eat a lunch - so my energy for the first half of the day comes from the good 'ol coffee

Being a Canadian, I have access to Tim Horton's. Timmy's beats Second Cup or Starbucks any day of the week - and a large cup of coffee from Tim's is $1.40 or something like that. From the Second Cup or Starbucks, it's like, $5.00 for a cup of coffee - and it's not even as good!

I'm part of the group of people that used to *hate* coffee. I also used to despise beer. Then one day, I just started liking it. Now I can't go a week without my beer and coffee!

Slime, I'm right there with ya. I cant STAND coffee. Its so bitter and nasty. That's not to say I'm not addicted to caffeine though. I do love moutain dew.

I actually like coffee quite a bit, but try to limit myself to about one cup a week, or sometimes a cup every two weeks. It seems to only work if you drink it really spread out like that.. I mainly just save it for those days when I have been up real late and have to get up really early.

I'm not one to drink coffee everyday, or even on a regular basis, at least not when my schedule is normal, which isn't exactly normal. If I'm on vacation though, I have to have 2-3 cups (no sugar, no cream, nothing... Why ruin the taste?) or I'll be somewhat more than irritable all day and have a headache and everything.

During a normal day though, I have to have caffeine. Usually it comes in the form of iced tea, 2-3 cups (32-48oz each) a day. Back when I was playing baseball a year ago, we were supposed to give up all forms of carbonation and caffeine, and within a week I had a headache by 2:00 everyday. So the caffeine part of that fell apart for me real quick, but after a year I still haven't had any kind of coke, which, surprisingly, I don't miss at all (this coming from someone who used to drink as much coke as I do tea now).

... Just realized I went through a whole 16oz cup of tea in the time it took to write all this...

Like most religions, ritual plays an important role. Thus the steaming hot cup.....

But I must admit that the injection idea has some merit to it. I do believe, however, that a more stable and long lasting blood level of caffeine would be achieved by using an intramuscular injection rather than booting it right into a vein.

And then we have the caffeinated soap for those who preferr transdermal absorption.

Well, if a bee flies in the window and you say;

While waving your cigarette hand. What if an ash falls into the coffee that you have in the other hand?

Then you drop your cigarette into your lap while trying to dab the ashes out of the coffe cup. Once you save the java you then notice that your balls are on fire. Naturally you sit up off the seat and try to rub the burning embers off your pants. But, when you sit up off the seat your foot puts more pressure on the gas pedal. Your car lurches forward into a crowd of non-smoking, non-coffe drinking, looky loo's, and then, you could kill someone from smoking and driving.

I must admit, I drink my coffee with french vanilla cream.

for me, i'll take my coffee and first cigarette of the day after i've had breakfast.. the aroma of the coffee
is so tantalizing... yet i prefer the taste of a dessert coffee - milk and sugar. mmmmmm. about
3 large cups a day interspersed with H20!

when i'm feeling festive, i fire up the espresso machine (i got as a gift a while ago) and steam the milk
- that with the coffee mixed with a portion of chocolate syrup.. and sugar to taste? yes. caffeine on top
of caffeine

Remember- If the Chocolate is melting in your hand that's a sure sign that you're eating it too slow.
