I am a Cherokee Gideon. My people are Cherokee.

Second, I have no fustration with "believers". On the contrary, believers like Bugs provide me with no fustration at all. I used to be a believer.
I get fustrated with stupidity, blindness, and ignorance of reality.

The Bible is so full of holes, it is not possible to be taken literally and remain within the reality of fact. One can take it subjectively, but then comes the problem of how. To date, I think Bugs has provided the best thought-out explainations for the foundation of his beliefs.

If Genesis alone was taken literally I believe there would be fewer problems with our society.

From a standpoint of my people, who were subjected to those who "took Genesis and the whole Bible literally", our society and world was not made better. In fact, they tended to kill us. Called us heathens, and tried to convert us with the sword. I think you need to take a better look at history, Gideon. A good long hard look.

Really? You are a Cherokee? Awesome.

Oh, sorry if you got the wrong impression WS, but the rest of that post was more aimed at Dms. I guess I didn't clairfy. Sorry. I am glad you posted though, I love to hear your input, too.

You too? Well, I try and wade through it anyway. One thing I have found, though, is that some people are only "stupid, blind, and ignorant" from your point of veiw. Some times, if you look at it from their perspective it is a lot easier to understand.

Your last paragraph is exactly why I think that if Genesis was taken literally things would be so much better. From Genesis, all the human race is decended from one man, Adam (and one woman Eve for those women activists out there). So, from that perspective the Native American peoples were not heathens, savages, or any other derogative word you can think of. Just a different culture living in a totally different part of the world.

As for the Christian religion being forced on people, I am against that. I am against the crusades, inquisition, etc. They were brutal, and violence helps people escape torment just about as much as a piece of toast does. Not one with grape jelly on it, just butter. I understand persecution, I have a vague idea from my ancestry, and I am very empathic (almost a sympathetic vomiter if you know what that is). I also have learned through experience that love helps more than any sword, bow, gun, or other implement of doom. I strongly believe that if the English/German/Spanish/etc. settlers would have loved and been friendly to the Native Americans rather than abuse them, they could have conquered the continent with love rather than violence.

Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you, rebuke a wise man and he will love you.

Actually Bugs, it is more the belief of my people, than the Hindus.

Do you think it makes any sense that Cherokee views may have more in common with those of Asia since the native Americans most likely came from there originally? I just see more similarity to Hindu teaching than Judeo-Xian when you mention what is believed by your people.

Could be Bugs. Don't forget that the Eastern Coast Native Americans also have French Genes in them, as well. There is new evidence, that during the last ice age, the cave painters from France went to north america, as well., and left their genes in that racial stock.

Animism and ancestor worship does seem to have some similarities.

I promised you a link to a book, it's called Dechipher by Stel Pavlou http://uk.geocities.com/stelpavlou/decipher.html

It's one of the best books I've ever read, and I've read around a thousand of 'em, no kidding!

Not only a good plot, but very heavily researched, touches on religion, science, history, evolution and much more. Pick it up, borrow it at the library, doesn't matter, but read it.

I'll get back on the other stuff momentarily.
