Hi!
I'm a bit of novice at Quark, so I need some help. I created a custom 4.5" x 5.5 (1/4) page layout in Quark 6.0 Windows, and want to turn it into a "4-up" single page .pdf file, so the printer can print directly from the 4 up page file. But when I distill the file, either manually thru .ps file or directly to .pdf using the Acrobat Distiller printer, I only get a one-up file (4.5" x 5.5" design in left corner of 8 1/2 x 11 page). I know I can always take the 1-up pdf file and manually copy and paste the design three times to manually make the 4-up directly in Acrobat. But it seems that there should be a way to do this without so much manual intervention. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful!!!

Just to clarify, I guess you could say I am trying to "tile"? the 4.5" x 5.5" design into 4 quadrants of an 8 1/2" x 11" page for the .pdf file. I was looking at tiling, but that is for printing parts of a design that are larger than a normal page size. Unless I didn't use it correctly? As I said, I'm a novice. Thanls

Well I haven't used Quark 6 yet, but as far as I am aware there is no good way doing this when spooling do Distiller or JAWS. The only way I can think of doing that is to find some PS printer driver that allows you to generate booklets. Perhaps one of the HP or Xerox Docucolor drivers and then generate raw PS and distill.

But who knows how acurate that would be. The other choice is find some 3rd party impostion extention or applescript. But most extentions are expensive, and would be more work then doing it by had for such a simple job.

Use the simplest method either copy and paste or if you document is more complex save your document as an EPS or PDF if Quark6 can place them. Then create a new document at 8.5x11, create a picture box, and use Step & Repeat to place the image and generate the PDF.

You should also check with your printer to see if they perfer to do the impostion and/or what if any bleed, gutter margins, and trim marks you will need to include.
