Just wanted to post my site for review here. http://www.geckofiend.net

I am still waiting for the logo's completion, and that will be in the top left corner.

Thanks,

1994! how are you doing? Long time no see.

If the joke didn't come off correctly the site looks like something strait out of the mid 90's. There are a ton of jaggies, lots of gray on gray with some yellow that is hard to read, and no form or direction.

What you might want to try doing is figuring out what your focus is. What is the site about and then mold your site design around that idea.

I am thinking you might get a largish picture of a reptile in there somehow, and the get a whole lizard theme going.

You will also find that a plain black and white page with well formed text works pretty well as a basic website, for the simple fact that it is easy to read. If your site is easy to read you have gotten a really good start, you can then start adding from there.

Also for your site there is absolutely no need for tables. You should make a CSS layout.

I would say, make more content available. Let the "about me" , "experience" be expanded to start with. The design does indeed feel like the 90s. The result is a design that does not make me want to read the content. You do have good some good content, so I suggest make a more inviting design.

Thanks for the replies. Looking at the site now, I don't know how I was ever happy with the graphics--THEY SUCK. I'm making a new interface now, and I will try to expand a few areas. I'll post a reply here when it's ready.

Ok, I redid the graphics-they're still not pleasing me 100%, but I feel that it's much better than before. I'm still waiting on the logo and more content.

Also, are tables deprecated now?

Thanks,

If tables aren't deprecated, and they work for my purposes, why should I redo them in CSS. As this site is designed for a small business, I feel that I should design it to work for as many browsers as possible, not just newer ones.

when it comes to periodically updating the look and feel of your site, it takes half the time to do it with CSS (stylesheets) as it does with tables and plain html.

as far as i know, all browsers support CSS (even the relatively old ones) .. i've learned that most cross-browser issues i've encountered have more to do with my knowledge of CSS rather than the browsers themselves. as in, i'm still learning good CSS practice...

tables are not deprecated yet as they're still recommended for tabular information (what they were meant for in the beginning) but using them for page layout is seriously outdated and.. um.. clunky.
