If the joke didn't come off correctly the site looks like something strait out of the mid 90's. There are a ton of jaggies, lots of gray on gray with some yellow that is hard to read, and no form or direction. What you might want to try doing is figuring out what your focus is. What is the site about and then mold your site design around that idea. I am thinking you might get a largish picture of a reptile in there somehow, and the get a whole lizard theme going. You will also find that a plain black and white page with well formed text works pretty well as a basic website, for the simple fact that it is easy to read. If your site is easy to read you have gotten a really good start, you can then start adding from there. Also for your site there is absolutely no need for tables. You should make a CSS layout.
