Topic awaiting preservation: Template Help...etc

Hi everyone or anyone,

I am in the process of designing a new website using microsoft frontapage. However, I feel this program is not advanced enough. I'm looking to create, firstly, a billiard template, preferably US 8Ball design. I would alos like to incorporate my logo into this. Afterwards, I would like to begin the design of my website, creating roughly 5pages - Its for a pool league I am running for Miniclip.com - therefore I want to make it as professioanl as possible. Can anyone help me in this area or direct me to the right programs etc? I've seen some basic and advanced designs of these templates. I would very much appreciate your help, anyone. Thank you,

Arggghhhhh. Baaf1, there are not many rules to speak of around here, but I find that one of the biggies is not to use Front Page everlol
Well I'm not much help art all really, other people will be along soon who are eminently better qualified to assist you than I. I would suggest you get busy making examples of what it is you are trying to achieve, to show as an example. Either post a graphic, if it's not too large, or better still link to an image or webpage.

I had a look at the linked site and I think you're right in wanting to create a "more realistic or advanced version". I am starting to learn about web creation myself so, as I said before, I'm not really much help to you at this stage. Most people here that I have spoken to hand code and some, like me, use Dreamweaver.
What is your skill level? Can you hand code?
Best wait for a bit till the hubbub about the erection subsides, then there will be more ppl to give you some guidence.

Let's be a little more specific.
Do you need help with the graphics?
...the markup?
...some fancy javascript you've thought of?
...back-end server stuff?
...getting it hosted?

All the above? =)

Asking specific questions around here often leads to specific answers.

It's hard to gauge what you do or do not know at this point, so you need to make clear where you are at exactly.

Making a professional website is not a quick easy task, and no amount of software will help if you don't know what you're doing with it.

Of course, we can help in both regards, if we know what you need.

Although Frontpage may not be the best program to be using here, anything is possible, so if you're comfortable using it and have experience eith it, it may be worth sticking to it, you can still edit the code directly after all.

Also there are different threads in this forum for the questions you have, and you may find that people are better prepared to answer your questions there once you've broken down your problem into smaller chunks.

This Erection hubbub does seem to have gone on for a long time, but I think now we all know that Bush is remaining in the Oval Orifice.

I've never used Frontpage but I imagine it works just like any other WYSIWYG editor. I assume you have access to the manual that came with the program or at least the help files. That should provide you with more then enough information on how to use the program. If you're more comfortable using internet tutorials, Google it. You might want to learn a little bit about HTML & CSS before beginning. There are a lot of great tutorials on the internet.

Yea I am most comfortable with using frontpage. My main priority is to create a pool table template, inwhich I can Insert my website titla and logo. After that I can pretty much degisn the whole website without any hassle (if im using microsoft frontpage). If anyone knows how to make this type of teplate with customised buttons included and maybe some unique affects inrelation to sounds(pool break sound), java and or macromedia flash (for kul side layout feature.) Yep. Clarifiction is badly needed.

There are *many* facets to designing a website. There are mnay possible ways to acheive a 'pool table' look for a website (as can be witnessed in the thread that I linked to).

Step one is creating graphics.
Step two is determining how to sctructure your code, and how to interact with CSS to appropriately display the graphics on the web page.
Step three would be working the rest of your conent/style into this setup.

Given that simplified sequence, what are you able/not able to do?

If you must use templates (along with the ability to administer them), I would recommend using a combination of DreamWeaver and Contribute. DreamWeaver has come a long way on the developer end, and Contribute has worked VERY well for us on a large edu project we recently did. Site content is easily edited with the added benefit of locking out areas that are prone to integrity breakdown and human error.

Hmmmmm. I think I precisely said i'd like help wth the design of a template - in relation to pool. Therefore i would need graphics made in relation to pool(billiards). Customised buttons would be home, faq, league divisions, about us, and contact. I havedesigned a rollover drop menu for the side layout, which im content with. There I need help or if someoe could quote a price etc that would be great,as I can compare it with prices in my home town. I think macromedia flash created enter page would be amazing. And once you click enter you here either an applause or a pool break sound etc. I would like each button that is stated above embodied into the template and once you click on it it makes a pool cue hit sound (sond once you hit the ball) Or maybe a chalk ound, or even both for differnt buttons. I would like the templateto have some flash or java design maybe. in this sense i mean like kool animated features, like for the sites loadin or for the cursor movement on the side layout. Ihope tghats specific

Which, as we said - is *extremely* vague
The term 'template' can be (and is) used in many different ways. The phrase 'i'd like help with the design of a template' opens it up much further to the vagueries we've mentioned...

Now, I am still not entirely clear, but from your last explanation it seems that you are in fact looking for someone to design a site for you, which you would then simply insert your content into.

Is that correct?

If so, that gives us a clear direction to move in. If not, then you'll need to be even more specific

Yes that is what I am asking...For someone to either design a template in relation to a billiards theme, or, to guide me in the right direction so that I can design the template myself.

I think i mentioned here what I would like done.

I also would also like to know where I can obtain a membe login program for my site. Php would probably be best for ths, though does anyone know where I can get a free version of this? and if it can be run of the hosts (providors) server rather than my own?

PHP is free and all things can be found at www.php.net. Writing the login script should be no problem, assuming you have your logins and passwords stored somewhere, somehow (anything from a flat text file to a db should work for simple applications.)

If you are not configuring your own server, you'll want to check with your host to see what server side languages they support.

Forgive me if I'm overstepping my bounds here, but you seem to be trying to run before you can walk. Maybe I'm misreading, but I havn't seen any indication you have adequately grasped marking up and styling a document. Attempting to write your own authentication script before you have the basics is likely to just lead to frustration.

What have you accomplished so far?
