OK - I've been all through the help files in the application and on microsoft.com and I can't find the answer I'm looking for,

Disclaimer: I am aware that Access is not the best database tool in the world, but that's what I have to work with...

I have a report with 2 grouping levels. I want to count the total number of records in each grouping level. The "=1" function works fine with the second grouping level, but will only count the records in the last group of that second level instead of giving me the total in the 1st grouping level. (I hope that makes sense, it sounds a little awkward...)

To count only the records in the group, the RunningSum property must be set to "Over Group". How do I specify that I want the total over the 1st grouping level? It stands to reason that it would provide the total based on the location of the text box, which is in the appropriate group footer, but this seems not to be happening. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

Hey, bodhi - I feel your pain!

Try not using the RunningSum property. Instead, use an expression in the appropriate footer like =Count(txtRecordNumber). However, this won't work if the field you are trying to get your totals off of are calculated fields. This was a limitation I discovered with Access reports.:P Without seeing what you are trying to get to, I'm not sure if this will help.

Moon Dancer - thanks!

I tried this: "=count([AcamStandCD])" and got an error. When I used "=count*([AcamStandCD])", I still get the total of the last group under the 2nd grouping level.

This is too weird.

(All I'm looking for is a total number of records in this grouping level so I can get a percentage for our Annual Report)

I'm still playin' with it - keep the suggestions coming!

Ok - why this didn't work before, I have no idea. But using "=count([AcamStandCD])" and removing the RunningSum property worked. I'm sure I tried that earlier, but you know, I honestly can't remember...

Thank you, Moon Dancer, for your help.

I'm all good now!

Glad it worked! Now if I could only get my own Access woes straightened out...
