Grrr! they haven't bring back the style switcher in the status bar
And of course the extensions and theme I used that are not listed on the official FireFox addons web site have been disabled, but that's not a problem I'll simply re-install them.

My extensions still work... maybe I'm just weird.

Go, Firefox, go! Make it stupid and wasteful for me to continue to be forced to design websites around MSIE!

Wow, the BBC covered the release of Firefox 1.0

Oh, and has anyone noticed that if you install FF 1.0 and let it set a default home page, it uses a FireFox branded Google, with random tips and links to 4 usefull FireFox and Mozilla related pages. Too bad this page does not validates

ok, i can see the obvious and numerous reasons to switch to firefox if you're on a pc. however, i'm on a mac running safari, don't have the pc-centric virus and other issues IE presents. any reason for me to switch?

Fig: any Mac user may switch to FireFox for the many extensions available. Honestly I've heard several times that the Mac versions of FireFox aren't as good as the Windows versions, but that's probably because Safari is really good and in fact way better than IE on both Mac and Windows.

Running Firefox and the only plugin that does not work is firesomething.

Also noticed hat the find menu now comes up at the bottom of the screen and selects worlds as you type and can highlight them. Thats nice.

the french daily newspaper Liberation has a blurb about FireFox 1.0 on its front page (pdf). Sorry I don't know why they put some Jpeg of that ugly quality on the PDF version of their frontpages. To watch it on their site, go to liberation.fr and click on "la une en pdf".

Firefox is no panacea, that much is certain. I think it is hugely popular primarily because it is the first viable alternative to IE for a loong while. There used to be a forum section here at the Asylum call "All Browsers Suck". Some things never change.

PaulBM, a friend of mine had that problem as well...after a few attempts, it worked.

Actually Bugs, I think it is becasue M$ slumped on the Browser front after defeating Netscape. No competition - no improvement of the product. That, and the huge security holes in IE.

For me, Firefox does everything that IE used to do, is more secure, has a built in pop-up blocker that works, I can decide to allow a website to install software or not, the customizability of FF, the extentions, themes, and the Browsing of multiple websites in one window (which I just love to death!).

And all that, with an easy to install and use process, that even imports all of my IE bookmarks, etc.

I call that more than just a viable alternative. I call it a BETTER alternative. Perfect? No. But better.

I am warming up to it slowly. But there are still some peculiarities in it's scripting capabilities that make me want to scream. But now that it is picking up so much steam, I am hard at work to make all my scripts compatible with it. I just wish it were more compliant.

Give it some time - it has just got started! I'm amazed at the amount of work and effort they have put into the product so far. They are very fast to respond to issues.

Yes, it can be improved. Looking forward to the improvements.

I simply love firefox... switched over all my browsing and mail to Firefox and Thunderbird when Firefox 1.0 came out... now I'm looking for tutorials that tell me how to skin this thing, because I've got the biggest urge to make an asylum skin.

Oh, and i discovered a bug, which I should probably report ot bugzilla... the links bar u pthe top that has 'free hotmail' and all that on it... if you clear it out the toolbar itself bounces... it gains and loses 3px of size about 3 times a second... if you add a seperator to stop it then the page your displaying starts to bounce until you go to another page.

I have managed to get updates for one theme (not listed here) and two extensions.

Yeah, I use Noia. In one FF DL (the one at home) it accepted Noia without problem, with the FF at work, I had to re-install Noia. But it still worked.

Try re-installing.

One thing that I am *very* pleased to see is the "go" button next to the address box! I use that a lot in IE and couldn't understand why they didn't have one in Firefox especially since it was intended to be comfortable for IE users.

DL'ed the new version and replaced as many of my extensions as I could find (couldn't find the "search dictionary" one) but,,, I still can't get Flash to work with it. I had Flash working on version 0.8 but since then, poopsville.
Ah well, there y'are, I guess this is not a common problem as I have not heard anyone else mention it.

About Flash, have you tried to re-install the plugin ?

Sorry I should have mentioned that poi, yes I have reinstalled a few times from a flashplayer7 installer that I dll not so long ago. Also I remember reading somewhere that it is advisable to uninstall (or was it disable) all extensions before uninstalling your earlier version of Foxy, prior to installing the newer version.
The dictionary search function I was alluding to was available on alt-click, I now have the search engine one thanks, though I may well use Mycroft again now that you have reminded me

[ed] Heh, I've just noticed that the jigsaw pieces (top right of browser window) actually has a function too when you click on it [/ed]
