hadn't seen anyone talking about this film yet (other than eyeazer and i briefly mentioning it in the ep III trailer discussion) so i thought i'd start up a thread.
i caught an early showing last friday and its the best film i've seen in...i don't even know how long. very different for pixar in certain respects, really took its time developing the plot and characters, and i think that helped make the relationships SO real. the sets were fantastic and the animation and technical side of the film were amazing as well. the score had this very cool jazzy/retro/superhero feel to it...there's really nothing i didn't love about this movie.
i'm trying to figure out when i can go see it again...

It was great! But, it wasn't for the kids.

Oh, Pixar will be catering for them in their next movie: Cars. (This trailer made me weep uncontrollably. I expected a lot more and better from these guys. They did Nemo f'Crissakes.)
I'll be seeing the incredibles the first chance I get.

Yeah, the incredibles was a really entertaining film. The characters were very realistic and the action was a lot of fun to watch.
Cars doesn't look so great but they have a long way to go on it, so you never know.

Too bad Square can't write a plotline to save their lives.
Now, if Pixar directed and teamed up with Square...

JK - He'd probably get a kick out of the animation, (and there is some funny, slap-stick type humor) but without getting too much into plot, this movie is actually surprisingly adult in its themes. It's not that it's sexual or too violent, it's just the issues that are brought up. He may pick up on some of it, (and probably will, we never seem to give kids enough credit) I just don't know that it would be very...interesting.
Overall, I thought the movie was fantastic. The character development was well done, they actually had some depth. Pixar in general does a good job with creating great characters, but this was their best so far (IMO). I would enjoy seeing additional work done with the Incredibles - be it through TV (though they better do it justice!!) or another movie. Then ending was certainly left wide open enough!
My only complaint was the theater neglected to show the SW ep III trailer...

Yes, mahjqa, I was referring to the aspects of the characters other than appearance. =)
Actually, I read an article saying that they kept the people in the movie cartoony on purpose. The reason is that it's much easier to relate to a cartoon character than it is to relate to a very realistic but not quite perfect looking character. If you shoot for realism and fail (and it's never really been done successfully), the result is much worse than if you go for a different look. Given that this was Pixar's first movie to actually feature humans, I think it was a wise decision.

Both toy story and monsters inc. had humans (albeit not the as the stars), although its damn clearly obvious that they always aimed for cartoony proportions within a realistic style. Big eyes, and 'babyy-ish' faces. Damn Mickey Mouse for starting that trend.
I have not seen The Incredibles yet 8it is not even out here yet), although I have the intentions of seeing it.
Am I the only one that actually enjoyed Final Fantasy : The Spirits Within? It wasn't brilliant, but I liked how the whole story flowed with sense and not just mindless ultra kablabstic battles with super battelcroizahs and stuff around. Then agian, I love many movies that are WAY slower paced.

jk, all the kids in the theater with us loved it, esp dash's scenes. the pacing is different than pixar's earlier stuff and it is more focused on the relationships within the family, character's individual struggles, etc., but like all pixar's work there's some fantastic action and humor for both kids and adults. i haven't talked to anyone of any age who hasn't thought it was phenomenal.
i really wouldn't classify the incredibles character design as cartoony, they're certainly caricatured to a certain extent but not really cartoony. their animation was much more subtle than the non-human characters in their other films and while not necessarily looking photoreal i had a lot more attachment to them than the characters in final fantasy or even the human characters in shrek/shrek 2.
honestly, i don't want to see anything like final fantasy again. i didn't dislike it (tho i found the story and character development lacking) but there was a certain dead quality to the characters, a few shots were phenomenal but overall the facial animation was severely lacking. what i don't understand is why you want to animate photoreal people, if you want photoreal people then there's these things called "actors" that are a whole lot cheaper to do some like final fantasy with actors composited into digital backgrounds (a la sky captain), given a good story, could be fascinating.

Ooh, i think one scene made me jump just about outta my seat. I was like, Wow! its a cartoon! Get a grip! No! Its real!
The story was very charecter driven... the plot was not at all, but i think it was mostly there to support the charecters. heh.
Yah, JK, no... kids would get scared, couldent follow the story, uh... would see dash and then try to run real fast and probably hurt themselves.
So yah, dont take the kiddo, Take me instead.
