I posted that to notice this site, which is a reply to http://www.sorryeverybody.com/ which has been posted here few days after the election.
If you consider it'd be better to submit this URL in ... Post-election scenario, feel free to use your super-MadSci-powers to do so and/or close the thread.

For some reason the links to those pics are not working for me. Can you guys still see them?

[edit]
I found them on the site and saw them there

Obviously gun ownership scares you. I guess that's understandable. It is kind of scary sometimes until you realize that good people owning guns is actually a very good thing. It helps avert many a crime here in the states annually.

[edit2]
Actually, some of those PhotoShopped pics are quite funny I particularly like the Hillary Clinton ones about her "not being sorry". I think that is quite the case! She now has the opportunity to run in '08 which at this point looks like a real possibility. A Kerry win could have made that much more unlikely for her.

Indeed guns ownership is not a part of my culture thus my difficulty to understand the need to own weapons and especially assault weapons. Well, actually that's not the gun ownership in itself that scares me but rather the fact that anybody can buy a weapon with little control.
It certainly helps avert some crimes which is great, but on the other hand the risk is high to put weapons in the hands of children or mentally weak adults that may kill themselves or anybody else by error or during a moment of delirium.

I'm still not entirely sure why you posted this, poi. I take it you disagree with it?

I posted it in reply to the link to sorryeverybody.com and also because I found the 2 pictures "caricatural" thus my sarcastic remark about how friendly they look. I disagree with the choice of 51% of the voters but again my opinion is highly influenced by my culture and has little, well no, importance on the results. I can only wish the best for the US and the rest of the world.

Oh No! What about the children!

Please,

Statistically, I would wager that more children are hurt by non gun wielding folk. Like perhaps "Uncle Ernie".
I dont have a ready supply of statistics handy, I'm sure there are some out there for both a won wager and a lost wager. However, my point is:

I believe it is not ok to use "The Children" to justify things like faulty gun laws, censorship, or other nebulous legislation that is about one thing, yet portrays itself in the "literature" to be for "The Children". This is a classic tactic of obfuscation that often times works.

It has even become a joke;

*Women clutches the sides of her head and screams "What about the Children!" audience sees them reaching for a pudding snack-[CUT]

[EDIT} errr, this is not an attack on your personal views poi, I respect your good will towards america. This is more about the notion of sacrificing adult rights in the name of "The Children". Screw the kids! They'll have their chance to run things soon enough. If they feel as though the Adults of today were right about "The Children", well then they will vote accordingly. Until then, please do not use the little snot nosed walking germ factories to take away any more of our rights. [snicker]{/edit]

UnknownComic: Don't worry, I don't want to change the US laws or constitution. Gun ownership is not in the European/French culture. That's why I quickly think to accidents or worse : Columbine. In France to buy a weapon you need a hunting licence or a sport licence which highly decrease the amount of weapons in circulation and thus the risk of accidents.

I would very much like to second that I appreciate your comment of good will towards America, poi. It is not something I have heard much... actually at all from a European in many years. As far as I'm concerned, and probably many here as well, we wish good things for you as well. I know we disagree on things, but I believe it is important to stand together as much as we can.

UC, I take it that you don't have any children? You see, many people care for thier children and their children's future. If we screw up today, they will have it hard for them in the future, and the basic consenses of the world, if I remember right, is to make things better not worse for the next generate. That is why that topic is tossed around so much. It is because that measure ways so heavily on mother and father hearts.

Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you, rebuke a wise man and he will love you.

Gideon, I take it you didn't see my little snicker at the end.

Children are wonderful. They bring us to a closer connection with God and humanity better than anything else in this world. AND, I want them to live in the best possible world.

However, they do tend to be snotty, and we hug them anyway. Not a very hygenic thing to do but they are our children and we love them. They go to school and bring back all the friendly germs we try to avoid, they really dont discriminate much unless indoctrinated by ... hmmm, thats for another thread.

We care for them, clean them, feed them, love them, ect., etc., but at a certain point we need to also teach them not to be swayed by spurious arguments and hyperbole.

[no offense to our own hyperbolic member intended]
