Yes there are a few other applications out there that do similiar things or try to at least...but this was great when I saw it.
Hopefully one of my screen grabs works in this post so you can see for yourselves.
I mean if you have a dodgy PC system it may not work, not to mention it's in beta stages currently. But really...I thought it was bloody groovy! Thought maybe some here might be interested to check out The SphereXP(only for XP users, obviously).

yeah, such systems look cool. And are bloody useless in practice. At least when they're trying to be a WIMP (windows, icons, menues, pointer) interface as well.

I've tried SphereXP a while back, and liked some things about it (the metaphor is excellent for organizing large amounts of windows on your screen at once). Howeverm the product as it currently stands is not well-enough integrated into the system and far too flashy for any practical purposes I'd have for it.

Maybe when it's a bit further along...

Interesting I just downloaded it. I usually work with a lot of programs open at once. It can be quite frustrating hitting the minimize button over and over again to get to the desktop when it gets crowded. This actually helps out a bit. Not sure if I'll get used to it or not though. Thanks for the link!

Or Windows+M works the same way, minimising all open programs

I think that the only real use of 3d will become apparent when we finally get the 3d hardware. (3d gloves and glasses, think Johnny Memnonic)

I mean, this whole "virtual reality" thing was tried back in the early nineties, but suffered from low responsiveness due to lack of computing power and such.

Now that personal computers have become 2^8= 256 times more powerful (Moore's
Law
) wouldn't it be about time that someone else gave it another shot?
