I am in the process of assisting a friend with finding hosting for his possible website. Have any of you heard of any good deals or just happen to run a hosting company. He needs lots of space and php cgi support.

The government doesn't like you or I but they want your vote.

The poster has demanded we remove all his contributions, less he takes legal action.
We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.
Don't follow his example - seek real life help first.

Dreamhost has worked out real well for me. Check out their plans. They have real low prices and fantastic service. I've been with them two years now and I don't have a single complaint.

I got this email from pugzly and it says:

quote:
On November 6th 2004, RunningWolf, Inc. decided to exit the web hosting business. This is due, in part, to the increasing cost of maintaining upgrading servers, operating systems, hardware, etc, as well as increasing competition from much larger providers. Our design and consulting business, however, will continue, as will our assistance and support of pro-second amendment and public safety related websites.

So hosting from runningwolf is not an option.

Since I figured out how to start and run a hosting service from information gleaned from Pugzly and RunningWolf, I felt it was inappropriate for me to compete with him in this forum. So I haven't.

With Pugzly stepping out of the hosting side of the business, perhaps I can fill the role he's played in hosting for Asylum inmates. And I think you'll find the business name, The Secret Labs, nicely reassuring if you've ever visited the lower environs of the East Wing.

From the standpoint of managing multiple domains from one control panel login? There is no arbitrary enforced limit. I just need to know in advance to set you up with a multi-domain account.

Since I pay licensing for the control panel, anti-virus and whatnot on a per-domain basis, I can't include X number of domains like some hosting services. Each additional domain is billable, but at a 40% discount.

Oh, and you don't have to commit to additional domains in advance. Just add them as you need them. I work out on a customer-by-customer basis whether you want additional domains to bill on the same cycle as your main account or individually. You're welcome to resell additional domains at whatever rate you desire, provided you also handle support for your customer.

If I've misunderstood the question, give another try.

I have been using www.phpwebhosting.com for over a year now. I have several of my clients hosted there and so far, so good. The cost is only $9.95 (US Dollars) per month for 225 Megs of diskspace (plus more for free as needed) and un-metered traffic. You can't to run a porn site or wares site, but for general web site hosting, this place is a great deal. They can handle all your PHP/MySQL needs, however they do not do asp. They also have a really sweet email control panel for managing your domain email accounts. Full POP3 and SMTP mail servers for your domain name. FWIW, I do not own stock in this company nor do I make any kind of profit by recommending them. I am just a happy customer.

*EDIT*
brucew, I just saw your post about hosting and I just might be interested in trying you out. I would just as soon send business to a fellow inmate... especially if it saves me a few $$$.

Well, my freebie site is not up again... I dont really have a purpose for my site.

Just maybe a repository of web doodles, image hosting, I would like a reliable place to put suho's sig rotator to good use and well, if traffic ever got excessive I could always put up a donate button to cover costs... LOL!

As if that would ever happen...

But if I just want a place to call my own, minimal traffic, a few whistles and bells, but my main concern would be server reliability... and I would probably need domain registration.

What kind of budget am I looking at?

$24.00 per year!

UC: I just threw this site up since we spoke, haven't given the PayPal a real test yet but it should work (for some reason it's requiring a phone number tho I've told it not to, just make one up until I can squash it if you're interested)

No tellin, haven't used it yet. All previous experiences with PayPal have been very good tho, I have no reason to doubt that this would be any different, though normally I'm *sending* money, not receiving it.

Got a big deadline?

Seriously tho, I'd think a few days would be the extent of the wait. I think you get immediate notice when a payment is made, then you have to wait for it to clear. I'd have n oproblem setting you up as soon as I got notice, that'd be a case by case basis type thing. If I know someone I'd do it as soon as notice comes, I can always nuke it if things go south. I'm not too worried about getting stiffed.
