I was trying to really simplify codetown and designing a simple header graphic, I had the idea that I wanted to mark codetown as mine, and a stamp is what popped into my head.

So I designed a simple background, and then made some text in a box. I rasterized the text, then merged it with the box, ultmately attacking it with some different low opacity erasers, which resulted in the image below.

What I am wondering is if there is a better way to do this to really make it look like a stamp, and after that a simple critique of the graphic. Thanks.

What i am saying is that the light spots in the stamp are going to be where the least amount of pressure is placed so try and imagine where the handle to the stamp is and what angle they stamped it from, because people dont usuallly press exactly straight down with the stamper. Usually to get a good stamp you have to kinda give it a little role down.

Might also want to consider giving it a little bit of a texture, even if just very sutle because the bottom of a stamper pad isnt smooth and the ink usually kinda follows the texture of the surface that its stamped too.. Well i am off to lunch no more time to chat..


All in all though I would have to say that the stamp looks good. Even if you didnt change it =)

The important thing to bear in mind is that there won't be even coverage at all, as seymour explained.

In addition, the type of surface that is stamped, and the condition of the stamp and amount of ink will affect the texture and coverage greatly.

I would personally play with some noise and blurs, on a whitish layer above the stamp, play around with opacities and modes...repeat if needed.

Look at other examples of stamped items though - if you have access to one, stamp some things out yourself for the best references.

Is it stands, yours looks a bit too solid and saturated to me.

version 3 should include more like the corners of version 1, with little bits and places missing here and there. also, when I think of the type of stamp you're trying to make, I always think of slightly thinner lines.

Is this anything like the effect you are looking for WarMage? Basically stroking paths with a textured brush and some textured erase on the text. Oh and I used a dark blue for the stamp.

Tao, a little less blur and I think that is what I am looking for. I was also thinking that thin lines are what is the "Stamp" standard. I have spent a good deal of time looking at different stamps, and this was what the general throught was.

I also agree that version 1 is a huge step above my second version. So hopefully my version 3 will do a bit better. I will start on the version 3 when I next get a chance. I just go HalfLife 2 and I have my girlfriend and family coming in for Thanksgiving so this week doesn't look all that good hopefully I will have something for this coming Sunday.
