Ok guys I hope this is the correct place to do this. If not, I'm really sorry.

I'm looking to try my hand at skinning some software (because I really feel I can) but I've never been able to get everything running on my computer. I am running WindowsXP-PRO-SP2 and 128MB/Ram and I would like to install PHP, MySQL, and Apache on my system so I can install stuff like Invision board and Wordpress.

Im looking for an installer which does most of the work for me (one that ACTUALLY WORKS) because I am still learning php and mysql and apache. Ive never been able to get it to run no matter what I do so Im looking for some inmates here to guide me along the correct path. Please.

I'd have to chime in for XAMPP.

The install is a breeze and it runs really rather nicely. I've also had no problem getting invisiboard to work on it at all.

I'd wave a little flag at the 128MB thing. I've run XPSP1 with Apache2/PHP4.3/MySQL on a 233MHz system, but it had 256MB. Just so you know if you get wonky performance issues.

I'd do a manual install. I'm masochistic like that though. I installed my current system (as above, XPSP2, 2.2GHz, 512MB) by downloading Apache, PHP and MySQL and installing each one, tweaking config files, etc. It's fairly straightforward, and I'd be happy to walk you through it. Shy of that though, XAMPP is the way to go. I have friends who've had great success with it.

that's my system I'm running RIGHT NOW have been using it for years and still isn't slow enough to make me spend money on buying all new stuff

BlackHat: you can try your hand with partition magic if you have a few gigabytes of unused HD space. just split your current partition and format the new one to accomodate whatever OS you'd like to use and then run your install should be LOTS of fun
