Alright well tonight on CNN, I heard about a brand-new Search engine. The thing is, its supposed to rival Google. I'm not 100% convinced.

I searched "zavaboy" and got:
Accoona: 3 pages
Google: 10 (or is it 9) pages

I'm not convinced ether...
Nobody can win against Google, Google is original, powerful, nice looking, recognizable, and last but not least unbeatable.

On my first visit to Accoona, it gave me a cookie, Google sets a cookie only for the preferences. I don't really like sites that give me cookies when I don't ask for one, though sadly a lot of sites do this.

Microsoft is supposed to be coming out with a new search technology as well that is said to be able to match Google. Google is god. If any search engine can top them, my hat is off to them. May Google live on forever.

Microsoft's search engine is all ready out, is bug-ridden, is slow, is clunky, and is very very Microsoft-ish. Nothing will beat google... yet.

Yep, I'll 2nd mas's comment. It looks a lot like a Google ripoff. And the few searches I did there were slow and not as correct/comprehensive/complete as a search in Google.

For instance:
search term: "ozoneasylum"
Accoona results: 237
Google results: ~74,100
Accoona places www.ozoneasylum.com as the 2nd result (the first being thr FaqWiki here for "unusual search terms")
Google of course has ozoneasylum.com as the first result

search term: "accoona"
Accoona results: 545
Google results: ~6,670
At least they both have accoona.com as the first two results

I think I'll stick to Google for now,

I searched myself under Accoona, and got nothing even remotely relating to me.

Pop it up in Google, and I have my account at nearly every forum I have ever been a member of.

Also notice the ridiculous amount of space Accoona devotes to sponser advertisements.

Accoona = t3h suck.

I think they can be forgiven for not being as comprehensive since their spiders haven't had as much time as google to index the web, but it seems as if their searching algorithm isn't as good.

For example, a search on "gamefaqs":

Accoona: the first result was a page that linked to gamefaqs.com and the rest of the results on the first page were subpages at gamefaqs.

Google: gamefaqs.com is the first site listed

A search on my handle returns me at first my asylum profile. Well, it's only mentioned and linked, as the url shown is just the ozoneasylum home, which kind of sucks when all you want is an url to a site you forgot the address.

And, unlike google, iit doesn't return me the variety of sites where I am registered.

Strangely enough, most of the returned stuff in the first page have something to do with the asylum, even when it is not directly a link to the site (i.e: The amerause and asylumites entry in my devart gallery).

Are you really likely to need 74,100 results for that search term?

Honestly, If you need more than 1 hit for that term you've got problems.

If you want to test it objectively, how about using it for a while to actually search for stuff, rather than pluggin in terms for things you already know and pointing at numbers you'll never even use.

As for it *looking* like google, might I point out that I used *many* search engines that looked very similar to google a long time before I'd ever heard of google. Metacrawler (before it started listing google) and dogpile come to mind and I know there were many more.
