Topic awaiting preservation: asylum loads slowly (Page 1 of 1)

am i the only one who has been experiencing long loading times for a few weeks? if yes, then i cant explain this. i have a broadband connection and the long waiting times (especially when posting) havent existed a few weeks ago.

No mas, my loading times for the Asylum have been acceptable recently.

I've experienced the same, but so far have not found the source of the problem.
Couple of times I found the database to be blocked by something, but the query that was actually blocking it, I did not find in phpmyadmins 'show processes'.

I guess other people have similar troubles since I've cleaned up serveral 'double(till quadruple) new thread creations' in the last couple of months.

We could disable the submit button once it has been clicked for the first time to catch most of those, don't you think?

I have noticed long posting times, that seem to be related to how long the thread is. In short threads (or new ones) the posting goes relatively quick - but the longer the thread, the slower the post.

Just my observation. I have seen these long posting occurances since the new forums went up.

well, I can't see how the length of a thread could have much effect. Sure the data get's bigger, and the array of posts has more elements, but it's still only a few kb at most.

As for 'disabling the submit button' - I have though about that. But what about the times the net really flunks your request? Can't submit again? Stupid.

OK, that's a point. Still, changing the button's caption to 'submitting...' wouldn't leave people wondering if anything is happening at all. Can't do any harm imo.

Actually for some pages that could be an issue. Not just with Tao but with everyone's sigs coming from external servers you have that load to contend with.

I've noticed some sites like to hang on certain external ads (especially those big damn flash overlays).

If we're really going to troubleshoot we should say what kind of connection and what particular pages. Personally I don't really notice lag on a pretty quick cable connection.
