my machine has stopped showing animated gifs
any ideas on how to fix it?

Have you rebooted?

Also, exactly how has it stopped showing animated gifs? Can you see them in your browser window? Does it show just a blank image or the 'X'?

If you recently installed zonealarm it can be that which is causing the trouble.
To fix it open zonealarm -> pricvacy -> adblocking -> custom uncheck the box that says 'animation'
then your'e done!

i guess zonealarm just goes for the animation no matter where it's placed
