1024x1024 154kb version
Being totally facinated by the Cassini/Huygens mission to Saturn and the attempted landing on Titan tomorrow (Friday 14th Jan), I decided to try to make an image or two of the event.
This is a WIP so I plan to do a lot more work on it still, and it needs some . The terrain I made in Bryce rather quickly, as i am not used to using that program. I think I may try do it all in PS, what do you think?
I want to try to get a balance between getting the physics right and creating a good image. For instance From Titan Saturn would look about 30% smaller but I think making it a bit bigger looks more dramatic. The same goes for Iapetus, the moon in the image.
The main thing I have left out is all the swirling clouds of gas and perhaps the colour or hue Titans atmosphere would add to the ambience. I plan to work on these things plus, perhaps a parachute, liquid on the surface etc etc.
Your thoughts are most welcome, and any help making a better terrain would be groovy

I don't mean to be picky (and I love the pic) - but Titan is hidden under clouds - your Titan is not. Just thought I would point that out...

I've been using TaoVision(pat pending) which enables the seeker to see more clearly .
Hopefully I will be able to add more clouds and general atmosphere as I go on

The textures on Saturn look pretty diluted, wheras the texture on the other body are super sharp. Then you have close up textures on the rocks that are also kind of faded, and then other rocks (farther away) that are again, quite sharp. There's too much disruption in the balance of things to "make it all fit."

I would work on composition some more before getting to the details. There's no real sense of depth - I can't tell what's farther away and what I could reach out and touch. I'm not trying to sound offensive here, but the piece as a whole really rapes my eyes.

If you need me to go into more detail, I can. IMO, I'd forget about Bryce all together. Most people who use Bryce or Poser and whatnot usually generate prefactored images that an experienced user could look at and say "yeah, that was made with Bryce" without having someone to tell him/her.

Thanks synax good points. I've reworked a few more steps but it still has the Bryce look, I'm working on all the above, and will post again in the next day or so.
Thanks for the input

The lighting is a little off. Each planet seems to be lit by a different sun. A little rotating, and some dodge, and burn could clean that up.

Thanks for the advice The more I look at it now the tamer it looks, I guess I was carried away with the event I'm still working on it and I will keep your suggestions in mind. That lander and the smoke trail is really getting on my nerves I'll have to stop looking at it.
You must have seen those pictures by now, fantastic. Of course I just had to play with them.
