Topic awaiting preservation: Spazmadic encoding and dodgy keyboard layout.

I've got two problems, which I think are possibily related.
First of all, Internet Explorer for some reason has recently decided that it will randomly select encodings from Western European (Windows), Western European (ISO) and UTF-8, Now Western European Windows, seems the safe option. When Internet explorer does decide to use The ISO version as its doing now.. the page gets broken, Images don't load and nor does css.. leaving me with broken images and unsurfable pages.

Secondly my keyboard layout has for some unknown reason to be changed itself to English (US), When infact it should be English (Britan). It would be a simple problem to fix if when I went to the keyboards setting in control panel I didn't get a grayed out pane and "old style keyboard driver detected, pane disabled"

Neither problem I can rectify regardless of searching the Microsfot knowedlge base or goggling around. It's quite upsetting I've been at it for days now to no avail and now sat here at about 1am, I'm building my self up for a reformat tomorrow morning. This is my last ditch attempt at slavation in hope that someone may know whats up and some sort of remedy..

usually when i have seen peoples sections of their browser or computer being greyed out, it is a means of spyware of some sort. Have you ran a combination or AVG, Spybot and AdAware?

I would really really really suggest getting used to using Firefox or Netscaper or something other than IE. It has been noted many times that IE is very easy to use to hi-jack someones computer in the manner you are describing.

Dont have a clue about your IE keyboard stuff, maybe its changing depending on the origin of the last site you were at, but I really wouldn't know.

"old style keyboard driver detected, pane disabled" <- I have a shitty keyboard that does this, its English(Irish) (which afaik is the same as Eng(UK)). My solution ? Got a new keyboard .. the cheaper the keyboard the better I've found. I got a Black Kensington for less than a tenner and its the best keyboard I've ever used. The main reason I went and got new keyboard was that you can't install win2k with one of these, I had to switch my keyboard everytime. Win2k install recognises its a keyboard but doesnt let you proceed after a step or two.

Use firefox, you'll find at least two/three features that will make you stick with it.

Ahh ok, Well I do have a 'new keyboard' its a Logitech one that I've had for three years, I've never had the pane disabled problem untill today. Perhaps I should of made it clear.

I do use firefox and opera, But.. The family feel 'safe' with internet exploere and its the default brower of choice.. that and my dad feels the need to stick to some old version of Blaxuin for vrml support.

I think It's time to bite the bullet and reformat I haven't done it for 6 months, I figure I'm 5 months over due.
