Using Doc's Glass tutorial to try the same technique with Text (as DL suggested I do with Doc's tutorials). Most of it worked, but the final product isn't really near what Doc produced especially in his text version of the technique.

First question, does anyone know how Doc produced the "minor 3d effect" noted on slide 8?

second question, Doc is using a different version of Photoshop than I have (I'm using CS). It's not clear in his layers window if each layer is transparent (except for the background). It looks different in my version so I just want to clarify if that's one thing I'm doing wrong or not.

third question, Slide 11 shows an additional layer (which Doc states he sometimes uses) along with the Edge definition layer and it's linked. When I tried this, the linked section appears in black instead of white like in the slide. Anyoe know what I might be doing wrong?

Finally, when I apply the layer of bright orange above the "grey disc" layer and set it to multiply, I definately do NOT get the effect Doc does. The grey area is ALSO orange not just the text. ideas on what I may have done wrong? Is this layer supposed to be transparent or white? I know most of the time, photoshop techniques use transparent layers, but I want to be sure.

Thanks. Please bear with me, I'm trying desperately to learn.

Not having used CS myself I might be reaching, but I remember reading something about layers working slightly different in the newer versions.

I guess there are inmates that could get a better explanation.

However, why don't you post what you have, and we'll might be able to give you some pointers. It's always easier to work from a visual

I'll have to recreate it. I think I tossed it since I was unhappy. I'll try it again.

How do I post what I have? Just post a link or is there a way to post the image or the PSD file to the board?

After you've got the jpeg or gif uploaded to your webspace you can use the ubb buttons to insert [img] tags. Just click 'edit' above Nimraw's post or hover the 'img' button and you'll see how it's done.

If you don't have a place where you can put your images up we probably can help with that too...
