It's good to see these kinds of things coming along. I've seen similar (more extensive articles) on using electronics and connections to the visual centers to enable the blind to see... Things are looking better and better each year.

Wow! Google Gulp? should do wonder once coupled with PigeonRank?

On a more serious side, I've seen several shows about a man amputed of the two legs who works hard with scientists to make some protheses driven by the muscles close to the amputed area. He's able to stand up, walk a bit and take some stairs. The calibration to get a smooth walk is tough but still that's a huuuge step forward.

I actually saw this a year or so ago on Discovery - it's insane that we're getting that advanced. Scary almost.
