Adobe to acquire Macromedia in $3.4B deal.
And the page on Adobe's site about Adobe and Macromedia.

Wow, I'm really curious to see the softwares and technologies these 2 masters of publishing will release together. I hope they won't rest on their laurel and there'll still be some competition ...

I'll put them both out of business.

Silence! I am about to make a prediction...
MS will spear-head a massive anti-trust lawsuit against Adobe-Macromedia.

hmm, this seems bad to me. I always viewed adobe and macromedia as two camps with totally different ways of going about designing similar software. Sometimes macromedia had the best notions, sometimes adobe did. I don't think the next generation of all their software will be the best of both worlds. And now adobe has eliminated their number one competitor! Maybe this'll fair well for the gimp though?

My predictions...

Fireworks -- Dead, some features go into PS/Imageready
GoLive -- Dead, same as above but with Dreamweaver, Dreamweaver has the stronger brand and user base.
Freehand -- real dead, I wouldn't want to be on that development team right now.

All th UI's will look like Adobe's. Hopefully Macromedia's strong developer community survives.

Or better still they'll buy the merged entity.

Either way, MS Paint is about to take a beating.
