Topic awaiting preservation: How do I create a desert clay like texture? (Page 1 of 1)

Okay, I've been Googling this for a while and can't come up with anything. I need to create a hard desert clay like background. I'm having a hard time coming up with something and thought I would ask you hardcore types.

Anything out there? Even an already completed wallpaper would be fine. It's just needed for a 692x60 background.

Actually, I'm looking for something not as drastic. Something like the background of this

so many different types of clay.....
you may get some ideas looking at pictures of stoneware or earthenware unglazed.

not understanding what you mean, even with the reference photo.

if the image only needs to be that large, taking a photo and cutting out a good piece would be a good way to go.

that aside, some generic tips:
clouds > noise > blur > emboss > hue+saturation would be the general direction I would start in.

You might be able to crop out a piece to use from this image.

I took a shot of some 100 year old bricks that I had laying around for the texture and sampled the colour from your image, then cloned it in overlay mode.
Not bad for a few minutes.

My server has been unstable lately so grab it while you can if it will work.

Yeah - I saw a building down the street that I might go take a photo of.

Here is a perfect example of the finish I'm looking for. Modeling clay.....

Yup old bricks are good for the texture, just change the colour and you should have something good.

That pic looks like clay I have used for pressing into piece moulds, stoneware or possibly
terra cotta, but there seems to be some grog mixed ito to it.

Just thought I would add a life size terra cotta sculpture I did a while back using a similar clay.
I love the feel of terra cotta, this piece has a bit of a shiny finish to it, but fired terra cotta in it's
raw form is to me a wonderfull texture on its own.



Maybe buy a couple kilos of red buff from a pottery supply house and use a rolling pin to flatten out a slab
and create your own texture markings and lighting, take a snap of it.

or go with the bricks.....or create from scratch in PS.
