I'd have to agree with you Iron...I'm stil laughing right now even though I read it about twice now.
No hacker would ask for IP addresses they trace it themselves...right? They do their work and don't let people know what they're doing. I mean that's their hobbies.

*rolls around laughing verily at internet stupidity*

note for the unwary: 127.0.0.1 is called the internal looback address. the card acts like the query it just sent out it also recieved, usually used for serving to yourself (like with a development server) or checking the up-state of your network hardware.

Exactly. It's easy enough to gain millions of unsuspecting IP addresses for kicks and giggles, and if you want a specific person's IP address, it's generally pretty easy to do that to unless they take special precautions (firewall, proxy server, whatever).

The entire point is that this guy wasn't a hacker, he was a cheap, pathetic wannabe: a SCRIPT KIDDIE (bum bum BAAAHH!!!) This is why all those angsty script kiddies should be taught the error of their ways as this one was. If they wanna be destroyers of all things decent, that's fine, but they should at least be able to do their homework (and sacrifice any other portion of their lives in order to do so).
