I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in this but it's worth sharing.

Thanks Shiiizzzam, I've missed the TV programmes in the series so far, not having a TV an all but I've been collating and editing some photos that I think would go well with the subject matter.
As soon as I do I'll post them up for perusal.

Are you from Liverpool Tao? Just asking, don't answer if you don't want to...

.. and: did you enter the competition?

I am from that "pool of life" that is Liverpool, kimson.
I hope to be making a website soon (I seem to have been saying that for ages) to feature some of the photograps I have taken over the last year or so. Here are a few photos taken from the Anglican cathedral in Liverpool, and this is a gallery/slideshow I've just started.

That's funny then, I asked because I was intending to have a look and see if any of the pictures I have made in Liverpool would be good enough for the competition. I made them when I went there for the first time in April. My boyfriend is a Scouser and I just loved the place. It's sound!
"Unfortunately" we are stuck in the South for the time being, in the very (very) posh and boring town of Ascot. But I'd like to move up north eventually...
Oh well, such ecxiting info about my life, I'm sure you couldn't have done without it...

On the contary kimson I'm delighted to hear that you have visited the Pool and liked it
Why not post up some of your photos here? I'd love to see them and I know others would too. I've just posted some photos of the Mersey river festival here but I guess you already knew that

Yes indeed, I did know that!
I have to say I sort of caught the "Liverpool fever" when I first started going out with my boyfriend; it took me by surprised, honestly... I even get involved when he watches the Reds now... I would never have believed it if you'd told me that a year ago! I couldn't help but get goose pimples when I first walked down the steps in the Cavern, and funnilly enough, I had the feeling I had already seen some places there although i'd never been there. Like memories of things I've never lived in my life, weird...
While we where on the train back to London he said to me he used to cry when he had to come back after visiting his family when he first moved down South 14 years ago, and then I started crying my eyes out for ages! Still don't know what happened to me... Still recovering... And firmly keeping an eye on oppurtunities or ways of getting involved in Liverpool 08 somehow!

I'll try and post some pictures I've made, although I didn't really take the time (didn't have time, should I say) to do my best! I need practice in photography.

Alright then, I haven't got the time to work on my pictures of Liverpool for now, but I have some here of Windsor Great Park. What do you think about them? I would like to submit a couple of them for the competition. Or is it worth even trying?

There you go then (click 4 big):

Alright guys, I have two tests with the same picture I have taken from Albert's Dock.

Please tell me what you thing about them, whether it looks like crap... or if I'm talking to myself and should get lost

I'll come up with a few more later

I think it is always "worth trying" kimson
Just a few thoughts, I like what you are doing with the "life belt" above, desaturating the image gives a good effect, but I think here you need to slightly desaturate the orange in the life belt too, it looks a little too orangy for me atm.
I've got to go out for a while but I'll be back later to go through the others if that is what you would like

Thank you for your help Tao! It is very much appreciated I have to say I sometimes lose my interest in photography, because of lack of time and means, but in overall it's something in which I'm very interested, and this thread encouraged me to have a go!

I have implemented my two pictures above like this:

The trouble is, most of the pictures I've made during my trip "up North" came out very bluish for some reason, and they need a lot of work, even the ones I just would like to send through for printing for me and my boyfriend
As you can see below, I try hard to get some natural colours back, but after some work on them, I start feeling dizzy and getting the feeling there's nothing I can do to get the colours right!

I suppose I should get to know how to use my camera better as well, shall I?

By the way, I have submitted the not too desaturated one and the one of the Liver Building above. But the latter is rather "post card"-like too me, I think I'll also submit some other ones, on which the composition is more interesting. I shall post them here before though.

Don't despair kimson, the more I learn about my camera and photoshop, the more I realize how much I have to learn

The photos you've done so far are responding well to the "dizzy" treatment; for some ideas about saturation - desaturation and what's achievable, you may like to look here ( but don't sink into despair , the lady is a master - as is our Asylum's very own Shiiizzzam)

PS: Kathleen's comments box will give you further details on her "treatment"

Ooops; staturation - spelling

Thanks for this link Ian! It's funny the way she treats her pictures. Not "funny" of course, but the effect is very interesting. I don't think I've ever seen something like this, talking about colour treatment.
Somebody says in the comment box on the "main" page: "It's like a painting except that it's not". That's right...
