Topic awaiting preservation: Autosave for any Program? (Page 1 of 1)

When I'm on my longer road trips, I like to keep Streets and Trips open, recording my path via GPS. I'm working on a nice trace of where I've been. Problem is S&T likes to crash a little too often, which creates annoying gaps in my trail, some a little too big for my taste, especially if I don't remember to reach over and dangerously hit Ctrl+S every once in a while.

What I'd like to find is a nice little program I can use to autosave in any Windows program. My search came up with very little, and nothing I wouldn't have to pay for. (Ah, the days when the word "shareware" meant "free" and the word "freeware" was unnecessary. I mean, when you have to pay for it, it just becomes regular "software" doesn't it?)

Anyone out there have any experience with anything?

Hello Wes,

What you ask for can be coded in less than an hour (with some features). This is done via sending the keystrokes to given applications every while.

I suppose keyboard macro utilities with scripting ability should do that as well (by they are more general than for this specific task):

ok, this hasn't been hugely tested, but it works on my little instance of notepad. I'll email a link to you. Here's hoping it suits your needs.

Well, it's not untested, it just hasn't bene through extensive rounds of testing. A few tries in notepad.
