Topic: When tables overlap divs... (Page 1 of 1)

HI Guys, This has really gotten me perplexed. I'm working on one of those pop up Flash shockwave ads, that run for a while and then disappear on top of an HTML page. I've gotten it implemented but putting the shockwave in a div and setting its absolute position and zindex to where I want it and its running fine.

The problem comes when I inserted another macromedia shockwave file into the table on the HTML page that was supposed to come underneath the div layer and the shockwave in the div layer.

However for some reason the div that was supposed to overlap the shockwave in the table is instead overlapped by the table shockwave. I've tried everything but no improvement.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Well I'm not sure but maybe objects like Shockwave and Flash don't follow the same rendering rules as other html elements, except for the dropdown box, which also suffers this problem.

However have you tried setting the position of the table to relative and then setting it's z-index to be lower than that of the div's? Just a thought, not had much experience with this kind of thing myself.

You might have to put the ad in an IFRAME since they are treated a bit like the form elements and object tags.

But in the end, it changes nothing to the fact that that kind of ad is evil, and almost every FF user will block purely and simply.

Well its not basically an ad, quite frankly I find it pretty annoying myself but heck its a workplace thing. Lookit this site here and you can see another problem when you try to resize it.

If I absolute position it the flash will overlap as I want It to but not if theres a shockwave file beneath it. BTW is there any plausible way to align the div containing the flash so that it maintains its position on the page like any other HTML element and still maintain its z-index property to overlap other page elements. At the moment its set to absolute but when you resize the page the div maintains its position with relation to the browser not t he page elements, I tried setting the positioning attribute to relative but it then wouldn't overlap any of the page elements.
