Topic awaiting preservation: 4 color separations for teeshirt screening (Page 1 of 1)

I have hand-drawn and colored original art that I would like to scan. I would like to output 300 dpi positives for a silkcreener to use.
I believe a black, red, yellow & blue screen will allow the screener to print a full color copy of the original. How do I scan and separate the colors?

CMYK* is the magic word. I don't know if your scanner can instantly save it that way, otherwise the Photoshop command [image>mode>CMYK] will get you a long way.

*Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and K for black.

1) You will scan in your picture in a regular fashion, 300 DPI.
2) Open Photoshop or Illustrator or Gimp or some other higher quality graphics program.
3) Put all of your blocks of color onto different layers.

Next it depends on how you will be doing the screening. I do photosensitve emultion. So...

4) Turn each layer to black and white.
5) Print out each layer onto a transparency.
6) Make your 4 screens.

If you have a different method you will need to give more details, on what exactly you will need. I do the image stuff and screen making myself. You might be sending this off to a shop. If you are sending it off to a shop you might want to ask them how they would want to recieve the work.
