Hi, Guys. How are you? I'd like to ask about windows update, please.
I know it is critical to download the latest patch.
I wonder if I can trust automatical type of download.
My colleague always do the windows update by manually.
I could not be bothered to do so every day so I set it automatical type at 3am everyday. But he said you should do it manually as well.
What do you do about this?

I say it's an incredible pain to try and use Windows without subjecting yourself to Microsoft's bull. Try Linux.

To actually answer the question ... I personally set Windows to tell me when updates are available, but I will manually select which ones I want downloaded and installed. I like to know when something has been released, but I don't like changes being made without my knowledge.

But if you find it easier, Tekapo, to abandon your OS entirely and learn a new one instead, go ahead.

when you do it automatically you only get critical updates

doing it manually you get optional updates
and driver updates if available

so check manually once in a while

Good point ... I was referring to the critical updates, which show up in your taskbar tray, but it's also a good idea to run Windows Update occasionally to see the other stuff, as outcydr pointed out.
