Not as bad as last time, but London's public transport has been bombed...again, exactly two weeks after the last one. Three trains and one bus, like before. AFAIK, only one person was injured, but the facts are still coming through.
It seems the bombs didn't detonate properly, so it's nowhere near as bad as last time, thank God. Still, London's transport has been affected, as you can imagine.
Wonder what's going to happen now...

Yeah it's strange, it seems that there weren't any actualy bombs, but just detonators!?

Still, it's early days yet, I'm sure we'll find out more as it goes on, apparently there was a nail bomb used, this apparerntly is quite strange as the Al Qaeda haven't used nail bombs before, sounds a bit ameturish.

Hope everyone gets though this one ok.

...I thought we established titles like "london burning", etc. as not good?

i just heard. i wonder how these blasts are connected to the first one two weeks ago. i hope London sees an end to this terror soon.

it's unnerving how this type of nonsense can ripple across the globe. yesterday, auckland business district shut down for three hours. some idiot left a briefcase in the middle of town and called in a bomb threat.

hmmm...

Yes, that's why I didn't dare post this time... So much for the thread title.

[update]Apparently they've arrested some man just outside Downing Street 10 mins ago...
The BBC had to turn the camera off[/update]

No London's burning is fine, it's historic even although a little innacurate this time.

Well it's almost comedic, from what I've heard, there's only 1 injured person, and he was one of the bombers, he hurt himself from his own detonator, but shielded the blast from anyone else! He's in hospital now with armed police men

As kimson said, they've arrested one other person in Downing street.

Cheers,

[edit]
Actually the above isn't true, I watched a broadcast and apparently the relationship between the hospital and the terrorist is that he legged it to the hospital to try and hide and the armed police are after him there.

Sorry about the title...I forgot that wasn't good. At least it's slightly less serious than last time around.

But seriously, what is wrong with 'London Attacked.. again'? I don't understand, British people just aren't that sensitive, it's OK...

As I am the one who originally took offence at the highly inaccurate 'London's Burning' title, I feel it only fair to point out that I have absolutely no problem with the current title - though the word "attempted" might be more apt this time.

Can we move on now?
___

A little conjecture:

From what I have been able to piece together, at least one bomber was seen to throw a bag aboard a train then flee. The explosive device triggered but failed - the detonator(s) went, but the main payload did not. This was one of two mentioned as being caught.

From various reports and accounts I have heard, one bomber was arrested and another shot. Possibly, two more may have failed also, and fled.

No casualties today apart from the one terrorist shot. He was apparently chased through Stockwell, tackled to the ground, then shot five times in the back of the head - it has been suggested that he was wearing a large jacket with the explosives strapped to his body.

In my honest opinion, if I thought the guy I was chasing was wearing a bomb, I would have no qualms about making sure he was dead as quickly as humanly possible. I do not however believe that these shots were fired by armed Police.

In events like these we have capable, disciplined, and unhesitatingly efficient forces outside of the civilian sector who are ideal for this sort of job.

Anyway - what balls they must have had to chase down a man they thought might trigger himself at any moment? Good job that man!

Yesterday - Four bombs. Three trains. One bus. No casualties. We had a lucky day - according to one tabloid.

Today, with intelligence tipping-off the authorities at about 9.30am, we had another lucky day.

As has been pointed out before, they only need one lucky day. We need a lucky day every day.

But what of the failed explosives? Is this a case of inept bomb-making? Did the chemist leave them with duff charges? Have they been ousted from the inside - their attacks foiled by sabotage?

There has also been a raid on a London flat in the last hour or so that eye witnesses reported as having turned up nothing (though what happened inside is unknown). Gas was fired into a basement and armed police converged on what may be a suspected bomb factory or terrorist cell HQ of some sort.

It is all still hazy, and likely to remain so for a while yet.
___

On a side-note, a survey suggests that more than ten percent of British Muslims feel that the bombings are justified. I have something to say to anybody who agrees with this - try to forgive my barely-restrained vehemence, as I have been negotiating police cordons all day for what should have been a quick spin up the city, and am not in the best of moods...

Go fuck yourselves you cowardly, filthy scum. Your kind is neither wanted, nor willingly tolerated in our society. You are not welcome, and you do not have the support or sympathy of any decent human being. You make me sick, and you probably sicken your mother too.

You should be tarred with the same brush as child-molesters, rapists, and the bombers themselves.

The people of this nation are not to blame for your apparent impotence (striking out like a deranged man spurned) but many more of us will be united against you (specifically you, not your moderate brethren) in the wake of these acts. Whatever your cause, you are only sealing your doom - we are not a nation prone to flights of panic or frenzied fear, and we do not bow to worthless scum like you.

Even your own people think you're scum. Your own family think you're scum, and will not mourn your passing. If you feel that suicide is a fair protest - forget the fucking bomb and just go kill yourself.

You're a waste of flesh.

FROM BBC:
Shot man not connected to bombing

A man shot dead by police hunting the bombers behind Thursday's London attacks was unconnected to the incidents, police have confirmed.
A Scotland Yard statement said the shooting was a "tragedy" which was regretted by the Metropolitan Police.

The man was shot dead after police followed him from a south London flat to Stockwell Tube station on Friday.

Two other men have been arrested and are being questioned after bombers targeted three Tube trains and a bus.

The statement read: "We believe we now know the identity of the man shot at Stockwell Underground station by police on Friday 22nd July 2005, although he is still subject to formal identification.

"We are now satisfied that he was not connected with the incidents of Thursday 21st July 2005.

"For somebody to lose their life in such circumstances is a tragedy and one that the Metropolitan Police Service regrets."

The statement confirmed the man was followed by police from a block of flats that was under surveillance.

The man's death is being investigated by officers from the MPS Directorate of Professional Standards, and will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Another link to the same story: Man shot dead ?not connected to terror attacks?

The man shot dead in south London on Friday is not connected to attempted terror attacks on the capital, said police. The statement came as it emerged that police have been given secret new shoot-to-kill guidelines in recent weeks.

Is that troubling to anyone else?

Yes, definitely. It's unlikely to happen to me, as I'm 15, white and live over 200 miles from London, but I can imagine that some would be worried, and rightly so.
I think it's unlikely to continue considering they got the wrong man yesterday though.

[edit]Didn't they say the terrorist lived in West Yorkshire though? So why was he shot in London?[/edit]
