Has the asylum been running unusually slow for anybody else the past few weeks?

Painfully ... yes. Was discussed a bit in the MS Lab.... probably has something to do with the host. Very intermittent I find and from no load at all to not-so-bad faster yet and back to no load.

Dreamhost needs to beef up their MySQL offering.

They've added a lot of new customers and a lot of "one click install" apps that use MySQL so the database servers are under constant barrage.

It's well and truly beginning to piss me off.

That said, they surely know that it's a sore spot with many users, therefor should be high on their priority list of things to fix. Coupled with yesterday's outtage due to the power failure in LA and the failure of the generators to kick in I'm getting right hot under the collar.

I couldn't access for more than 24 hours. Only able to get on again this AM.

Where are Dreamhost's hosting farms located? My site is hosted in LA, and it seemed like Asylum went down for about the same time period yesterday.

Yes, Dreamhost's server farms (and their DNS servers too, I believe) are located in LA, and I guess after the blackout they had some problems bringing a few links back up. Some sites were out a lot longer than others.
