That explains the free registration keys.

I wonder where they're getting their income from then?

Hooray for the (IMO) currently best browser out there.

opera makes quite a chunk of it's income with the embedded browsers for mobile devices...

No sys-tray icon but on installation I noticed you could add it to 'quick launch.'

But my problem is my memory... as in my 'head.'
I just downloaded this new version after doing the free key thing earlier and on that earlier version I could have sworn there was 'tabbed' browsing. On this version all I see is 'tile/cascade.'

So am I losing it or has it been changed? If there's no tabbed browsing the 'fat lady is about to sing. =)

What do you guys & gals think of this new Opera "feature"?

" - Browser JavaScript fixes broken Web sites on the fly"

http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/windows/850/

Does this mean our work is going to get hosed just because Opera thinks the code is invalid?

I don't, but then, I have the Opera version that I activated with the key...

ZOD: http://www.opera.com/docs/browserjs/

Looks like that's the idea. They're only targetting specific websites, but I would be mad if I were the author of such a website. If they go changing their web page, it might break it in Opera.

On the other hand, if they had coded well in the first place, they wouldn't have to deal with this, so some sympathy is lost there.

Well Opera has no doubt improved but it's past support for Javascript has left a lot to be desired. That's why it bothered me.

nojive: that's a configuration option. hit alt-p 'show pages in tabs' should be the one you're looking for.

I just installed it at work, on my w2k station, and there's no Opera icon in the systray.

Opera's support of the web standards and JavaScript is really good. It's pretty close to that of Mozilla and Safari. If a site breaks in a Standard Compliant browser ( aka Opera, Safari or Mozilla ) that's because the said site is badly written or designed especially for IE.

FYI about the system tray icon:
it appears as soon as you use the mail or chat feature the first time. and it seems the only way to get rid of it is by deleting the "Mail" folder in your profile. not very user-friendly if you ask me.
