Hello world.
We had this discussion: http://www.ozoneasylum.com/26403

And Poi mentionned he would be glad to contribute something for the lobby.
I have given up on the stupid idea of collecting 20 liners myself: after all, they belong to the Asylum.

So, the mentionned "lobby/collection" should, if bandwidth allows it, be collected around here¨, imho.
As the grail, the GN redesign, and all that cool work (Wikki and all), I think they deserve their permanent home around here.

My 2 cents..

That 20 liners repository could be cool and enrich the knowledge base that are the Asylum and the GurusNetwork.
At first it could be a simple repository but nothing forbids us to add, later, some comments, articles, tutorials and even host some 20 lines contests at times.

Though it may be practical I don't know if it should be a child project of the Asylum ( read, share the same host and DB ). After all the GurusNetwork stands by itself.

To bring a bit of the insanity of the Asylum, and of the crazy idea to limit yourself to tight constraints, the site could have some random animations à la IK+ and why not a navigation à la Dasher. We could even log the paths drawn by the visitors and display them to show the most popular themes/authors/entries/articles/...

Any ideas ?

Just a few quick notes, even if I haven't really put on my thinking cap on this yet...

If this is going to happen I'd much like to see it integrated with the forums / grail in some way. Attract some more people to the DHTML forum, they might stick around and post elsewhere, too, always a good thing.

I'm not sure how big you envision this to become, but to begin with a dedicated FAQ section could work quite nicely I think. Listings of contest threads, entries, links to scripts, a section for tutorials, comments on scripts, with a bit of planning it could all fit in. If webspace for the scripts is needed (so they are all hosted in one place and available forever), maybe TP could put something together to make this possible.

Then, of course, people would need to be able find their way to the 20liners FAQ as easily as possible. We could have a link to it in the DHTML forum's description, a 'sticky' thread, or some kind of info box at the top of the DHTML forum's thread listings.

Actually, the 20 liners section being about programming and short javascripts in action, we thought of a navigation which.. would obviously
belong to the ozone realm, we also considered all the things here, how they relate
to video games of the past.
And we thought a javascript based frontdoor to the galeries, made by poi and.. ~cough, _Mauro, "could" be a nice touch.

Probably a twenty liner itself, and one that would be compliant with all major browsers, and would degrade easilly.
Check this, and just picture how it could relate to a
blue/orange background, and simple "menus" to display entries and required informations.

My feelings are mixed about the integration of the 20 liners repository/how-to into the Asylum.

Sure most of it could be quickly done with a FAQWiki in the Asylum, and we would benefit of the links to the cell of the authors, links to the threads in the Asylum, the UBB codes, the registration system, ...

But, as kuckus pointed, I'm worried about the navigation and ease of access. That of the Asylum works like a charm for a forum ( normal that's what it's designed for ), but for something more portal-like I doubt it'd work well. Doing transversal links ( i.e. listing all the entries made by a given inmate you picked the name from the list of entries at a monthly 20 lines contest ) might be tricky.

On the other hand the idea of having a "sticky" is interresting. Well, instead of a classical thread, it could actually be a FAQWiki. And if it lies in the DHTML forum, why not also including the other extreme things done there, like the insane optimization challenges we had about drawing a panda face, or drawing a sierpinski gasket, ...

Cherry on the cake, other forums might benefit from the "sticky" FAQWiki feature. For instance there might be one in the Outpatient Counseling giving hints about pricing and how to deal with clients.

Anyway if the 20 liners repository ends on the Asylum, we'll certainly have to touch the Grail a bit to add some features. The question is how time consuming will it be ? Could we overcome the navigation problems easily ? Could we add some JavaScript effects/enhancements ?

Ok, this is gonna happen in a flavor or another, and I would "love" some input of other people in this community, so I am bumping.

Dear cast.. poi, what do you think of a wild scripting session on Q one of these days to put the shell together? I can take care of the backend,
and then we just have to choose a server, or another, or ten for that matter, for hosting?

As you know I'm moving to Oslo real soon, so sorry but the wild script session will have to wait a bit and I also fear I'll have a hard time to finish (make) my entry for the 20 years of Atari ST celebration compo.

That's incredible the amount of papers and stuffs I've accumulated in 5 years in my appartement.
