Newsletters by email - best solution is inline css as web based email providers strp out ya nice css unless it is inline.

The question is: how do i specify a:hover - gooogle'd and found a couple of surgestions but none seem to work.

You can't. There is only a working draft (http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/WD-css-style-attr-20020515) that probably never will be completed.

You can script it with a small bit of JS using onmouseover and onmouseout.


or probably not js is probably stripped out too.

thought as much - i'll have to declare the styles in <style> tag - it wont affect the usabiliity so no biggy.
