Considering that Mr. Bush has admitted that we went to war in Iraq (in end effect, we invaded another country on false premises), and that Mr. Bush has ordered illegal wire-tapping and surviellance of US citizens, I am asking what others here think about Impeaching him.

I am for it. Nixon was impeached for like transgressions.

I'm all for anything that would get Bush out of office (I realize that impeachment does not remove him from office...but it could lead to that).

He is, quite simply, th emost dangerous president we've ever had.

Doing something illegal vs getting a blow job.

I am all for impeachment. This president has violated international law, and now he is flaunting his violation of US law. The president and the rest of this administration need to be help accountable. Impeachment is just the first step.

Let's make it a tradition. All presidents should be impeached in their second term.

Not too sure what impeach means in practice, ah ok, looked it up:

quote:
im·peachment n. (from Dictionary.com)

Usage Note: When an irate citizen demands that a disfavored public official be impeached, the citizen clearly intends for the official to be removed from office. This popular use of impeach as a synonym of ?throw out? (even if by due process) does not accord with the legal meaning of the word. As recent history has shown, when a public official is impeached, that is, formally accused of wrongdoing, this is only the start of what can be a lengthy process that may or may not lead to the official's removal from office. In strict usage, an official is impeached (accused), tried, and then convicted or acquitted. The vaguer use of impeach reflects disgruntled citizens' indifference to whether the official is forced from office by legal means or chooses to resign to avoid further disgrace.

Word History: Nothing hobbles a President so much as impeachment, and there is an etymological as well as a procedural reason for this. The word impeach can be traced back through Anglo-Norman empecher to Late Latin impedicre, ?to catch, entangle,? from Latin pedica, ?fetter for the ankle, snare.? Thus we find that Middle English empechen, the ancestor of our word, means such things as ?to cause to get stuck fast,? ?hinder or impede,? ?interfere with,? and ?criticize unfavorably.? A legal sense of empechen is first recorded in 1384. This sense, which had previously developed in Old French, was ?to accuse, bring charges against.?

I would love to see the American people demand more accountabilty from their President and his government. The view over here in England (generally) is that Americans are so super patriotic that they would not dream of criticising their President. I do not know anyone out of a circle of say 30 odd friends here in old England who trust the American government at all.

After far too many years under a Conservative government I was overjoyed when Labour got in power over here. Even when that meant that I would now be paying thousands of ££s for the multimedia course at University because they brought in tuition fees. I still think Labour have done a lot of good, but the whole, going to war with Iraq on false intelligence, totally destroyed any faith I had in Tony Blair. They lied then and they are still lying now.
I hope for War Trials to try to establish just who was lying and why but I don't think that is going to happen.

::tao:::: ::cell::
[edit]I critizise the UK government just as much, no, even more, for deliberately misleading the public on this matter. I also realise that a lot of Americans are standing up and openly critisizing the decision for war much more than we are used to seeing over here.
I hope this does not come across as my being "anti-American" or anything stupid like that. I most certainly am not. I am anti lying governments and their fat cat puppetmasters whatever the nationality[/ed]

Hi bodhi, have not seen you in a long while.
WarMage, yes I have met quite a few Americans who trusted their government, perhaps not 100%, but that would be unrealistic.
