Just some rough filler to get a feel of the body.
I now understand why Weedz used a *hard* edged brush... and why he said to paint *HUGE*. If you use a large soft brush at huge size - computer no workie.
Large Hard brush with opacity control = really nice blending at enormous dimensions - that is, if you have a tablet. And enormous dimensions makes detail work a snap when you size it down. Slop away! WooHoo!
And, here are the photos I am refing,

So how HUGE are you talkin' here?
I like it btw... especially because I can see what you pretty much started with.
How many layers?

Layers? I scoff at layers! Bah Ha Ha!
[edit] uppon further reflection, Once I start to tweak the painting and get detailed I will start to paint on a second layer. Once I get it how I like it I will merge the new layer down and then pop up a new layer. I usually don't have more than 3 or 4 in a painting like this. [/edit]
Errrmmm... it is around 9200 by 7400 px. Will be printed at 8 ish by 10 ish I think. So it is about 8X10 at 900DPI at the moment. When I go to print I will scale it down to 300, sharpen it, and then do a final brush over. (unless i decide to play around with it in painter)
So, that is the plan.
Here is a shot of the center at 100%.
Okay, Awesome tip #Foo. I just found out that you can run a proof setup on a secondary window view. So I can paint at 100% in color, open a new window and scale down, to see the whole picture, and I can also view that preview in gray scale so I can easilly see the depth and shading I am doing in color.
In the past I always started to paint in Gray, and then go colorize it... But I prefer to paint in color.... So I can now paint in color and preview in gray And color! WooHoo!

"Layers? I scoff at layers! Bah Ha Ha"! heh.
Beautiful work eyezaer. When you say "run a proof setup on a secondary window view." How have you done that? Oh, unless you mean in Painter, not PS. Thanks for reminding me about the brush type when working large. I had forgotten about that.

TP, valentine's day logo? Yah! that would be cool. I think something alittle cleaner cut that this, but I dig.
Tao, yah in photoshop, View>>>Proof Setup>>>Custom...
And more on brushes... I have been playing around with settings to keep that lag down when painting. I always kill the brush "shape dynamics" It slows ya down way to much for painting quick with a large brush. I use a tablet, so I turn on the "Other Dynamics" and set both Opacity and sometimes Flow Jitter to 0% The only thing I tweak really is the brush spacing in the "Brush Tip Shape" window. I have it set to 10% at the moment, as I can get a smooth enough edge while stroking quickly with minimal lag.
I have been workin on the highlights... Will get some pics up soon. I gotta finish this thang tonight if at all possible.

hrmpft. I couldent be happier with what I have done so far... but now past 2:30 am, I just remembered that this painting needs to be portrait, not landscaped... at 13 x 11, not 8 x 10. Good deal. Killians is no substitute for coffee. That is what I have to say about that.
So here is the last landscaped update...

I love your colour selection. It almost looks like it was painted with water colors =).

I should really think about investing in a graphics tablet......hmmmm yes graphics tablet is sounding good.
On a different topic somewhat- mind if I ask what your screen resolution is set to? your screen shot seems wider than the norm i'm curious

that'd be a dual monitor setup there, looks about 3200x1200 by the relative toolbar sizes

I is tired. Too much turky... mmmm.... turky....
anywhoo, Yah, I am going to work on it a bit more I think... I never actually got a official print.... So anyone know anything about digital prints? I would like to get it done on water color paper or something nice. Aka, not high gloss photo paper.
Word, Insider, thanks man. I used to use a lot of off colors when I painted with actual paint, and I was trying to get away from the realism I normally attempt with digital work.
ah, and good catch velvetrose, I probably need to add a few thorns although, I do hate those things.
yah, Jason, I was out. Am out this week aswell. And I have forgotten how to log in from home. Ah, and close on the screen rez... tho i believe it is... are? two 1280x1024's. Once you go wide, you can't go back
have a 8x10 tablet... which I have mapped to the screens at the same aspect ratio, so I don't use the entire tablet. Seems to work just great like.
Mo latter. I got a movie to watch, and I am poop-ed.
Hope yall had a great christmas.
