Under windows you don't at all.
File permissions on windows are way more complex than the standard user/group/world rights you can use under unix.

So, if you're on the box, hit explorer and choose properties/permissions to change who can change the file. That is if you're not stuck on windows XP Home.

so long,

Or switch to WarFTP daemon, which does support chmod and chown in FTP under Windows XP/2K.

Edit: That is, tmk, but I've done it before. Hope that helps.

I had assumed it was converting the octal values into something the filesystem would understand. At least you can set the permissions for execution by everyone, so that your scripts don't hit a 403/Forbidden. That said, you're right, there's no way for it to perform precisely like UNIX regarding chmod, but it's better than nothing. When and how it works in each situation, I have no idea; I've just used it to get scripts running when I was having problems.

Otherwise, get comfy with changing permissions in Windows and just use a VNC server/client.

Cheers,
DC
