So, has anyone else been sucked into this yet?

It's similar to Starship Traders, but built around Google Earth to an extent. You do most of the actual game playing through the site (not really laid out as nice as the SST site though), but to start earning money, you fly around Google Earth looking for jewels (landmarks, buildings, etc). Once you get going, you can start building oil wells (in Saudi Arabia), diamond mines (in South Africa), and cotton fields (in Georgia).
Instead of taking over whole planets, you fight over cities (I think they're still adding new cities every now and then).

If you want to take it a little more seriously, you can contribute a few bucks to server costs and get a few perks.

I got started sometime last week and didn't think I'd play long, but once you start building up a couple armies, it gains a little interest

There are also alliances (not sure if they work quite like in SST though), so if anyone's interested, we can start an Ozone alliance to play around with until the novelty wears off.

if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

I'm all for kicking the top couple alliances around for awhile (if only just to be a pain in their ass ). I've got two cities right now and my alliance (Loony Bin) is moving up, especially considering it's just me right now.

Unfortunately I'm about to leave for 5 days for a funeral, so I'll probably fall back off into oblivion again until next weekend. And there are 4 armies headed to one of my cities as we speak, so I have a feeling I might be losing it in about an hour (revenge is a lot more fun when you're the one nuking someone else...).

If there's anyone that wants in the Loony Bin before I go out of town (send me a message through gewar (I'm PKSII in there)).

damn its says the beta is full for the time being.. i really wanted to play too =(
