For those who weren't aware, Monty Python was introduced to the United States by my local PBS station, located in Dallas. I had nothing to do with it, as I was only 1 at the time, but I'm proud nonetheless.

Anyway, an engineer recently unearthed a tape that held a portion of an interview with four members of the troupe. The interview was held in the KERA studio during a 1975 fundraiser, just as Monty Python was releasing The Holy Grail. This is before most of America even knew who they were.

Enjoy ...

Thanks for that link, Wes. That's a wonderful piece of television history (as well as a horrific reminder why we should do our best to forget the 70s ever happened).

What a lovely gem of televisual history, thanks for the link Wes.
When you refer to the accents, do you mean the American or the English accents, or both perhaps? I could not tell if the american accents have changed with time, but I thought Michael Palin's and Terry Jones's have become less "received". I do notice a big difference in Terry Gilliam's accent. Graham Chapman of course has gone to the Big Top in the sky.

You feel old!! Heh, you younglin's today, don't know you're born. When I were a lad we did not have computers or the like to amuse us, nah, all we 'ad were a torch. We would take turns shining the torch into us eyes till we could see rainbows.....

Well, both, I guess, but what stuck with me were the horrible Texas accents from the audience. I swear only 1 in 50 of us talk like that, but somehow those are the people who always end up on TV.

Much obliged, Tao. I feel young again!

And yeah, concerning the accents... when I first read the post, I thought Wes was talking about the British accents, but then when I watched the video I thought, "Oh, he was talking about the American accents. My God indeed."

Funny story: when I was in London, I was flipping through the channels (all four of them) and happened to find the Oprah Winfrey show. The only reason I stopped to watch it was because one of the guests had this god-awful twanging Southern accent. The funny thing was that every time this particular guest spoke (but at no other time), subtitles appeared on the screen.
