Sorry, I know this question has been asked before.... but I need to ask it from a different perspective.

The company I'm working for wants to integrate a message board into their site. I've integrated phpBB forums with a few sites, but it was done with the idea that phpBB was used as the base for the rest of the site. It used phpBB user and group permissions and session functionality. Basically phpBB became the backend of the site and then we just pulled what we wanted out of the db for display on the front.

My company doesn't use the standard php sessions and they want to have whatever forum package we end up choosing use our current session handler. Does anybody have any experience with something like this and any suggestions from your experience?

Thanks in advance

My experience has been with with SMF, I say this because I've seen this script and the one before it grow since 2000 I have seen developers come from phpbb, IPB, come just to be on it's development team it?s been over a year and a half since version 1.5 came out and it was 2 months ago that a security whole was found requiring version 1.6 to take it's place, so as far as security it's the best for open source! and with SSI.php and SMF's own api script you could do any sessions you want!

and (this is a shameless plug - I converted this portal, and am on the div team!) for front end portals E2 uses SMF's security to a T and offers a secure and powerful environment for developing modules, that can be set as your sites home page seamlessly appearing to to be set aside from SMF!!!!

hey for opensource try SMF!

Aquilo

SMF looks pretty good at that. It will probably come down to a choice of SMF or vBulletin depending on whether or not my bosses want to pay for a forum or not.

Thanks for the info.
