Ok since I've been coming here, I've messed with several sigs for myself, this latest attempt was made just looking at teh asylum in the header and trying to just eyeball it to come close... my question is, some of you have incredible detail in yours and the transparencies are flawless.... it's taken me several tries to even make the transparency this clean....

just curious what some of the experts do as far as getting sigs going. (yeah im a little bored....)

Hi Radical Rob, it was buried deep and I almost gave up, so I'm not suprised you never found (if you looked of course...)

How do I make a transparent graphic?

Check out that faq, ,it should lead to some answers.

Cheers,

'matte' is the color the transparent parts of your image will tend to.

This may be handy too:

I did an asylum logo based sig a while back, can't recall what the occasion was, but -

There was a PSD of the asylum logo floating around at one point...can't seem to locate a copy now though.

Thanks kuckus, I'd misplaced my copy of the Asylum logo PSD and I don't think it had the April version either, or perhaps it had? Well slainte anyway
Radical Rob, it looks like you have all the help you need already given above. One little bit of advice I found useful was to work large (on a sig) and shrink down for the final version. Most of the sigs I have made have started off two, to four times the final size.

Just for the record - I know a lot of people do this. I know a lot of people have success doing this.

I never do this.

I always have far better luck working 1:1.

YMMV

Either this forum or in photoshop Mahj laid out a rather detailed procedure he uses for reducing at least some of his sigs. It involved, as I recall, something about 'nearest neighbor' in the resampling process... I thought I saved it somewhere but can't find it now. Anyway I thought it was pretty interesting and remember saying to myself.... how the hell did he ever figure out that. =)

YMMV? I don't think I have ever heard that one before DL, I had to look it up
My mileage varies all the time with respect to the size of the file I am working on and if the finished piece is to be animated or not.
One of the frustrating things about working more than twice the size is all the detail you have painstakingly worked on can be lost when reducing.
Conversely, one of the joys, is it can also lose a lot of the mistakes I am too lazy to fix
