It's cheaper to roll out to end users, cheaper and easier to maintain. more portable. It's big money for companys small and large to implement all the hardware, OS's, networks, centralized services etc etc. This kind of computing saves a ton of that money to be spent elsewhere so in my opinion, it will happen. THere's a lot of big players ramping it up already including google and MS and a bunch of other little satellites. The open document xml format got certified as the standard before and over MS's version that they were lobbying hard for so I see that as another step in this direction. For business and those home users that do light office, email, web surf I'd think they'd be moving that way quickly but it will take a while before Industrial Light and Magic or even DL-44 types go there for all the apps and power we like on the desktop.
