I've been giving it a test run, too, the last few days. Have to say that after some customizing, I now like it quite a bit more than initially. Some of my pros / cons (in no partivualr order and surely not in any way complete as there's much I haven't tested yet).. Pro - smooth scrolling - mouse gestures built-in - WAND button (not a huge difference in functionality to FF, but I love it, still) - status info right inside the address bar, no separate status bar - speedy rendering (might be prejudice, though, I'm not sure ;)) - "paste & go" and context menu option "go to url" when there's some text selected - downloads / "transfers" inside a tab - some cool themes (love the "dapper" one) Contra - lots of special effects active by default, need to find the setting poi mentioned - default toolbar setup (3 separate search fields?? and the floating bar beneath the url field - to me, the main thing that just felt wrong, though I only noticed how much it bugged me after I had it disabled for a bit!) - extensions only as "widgets" - I kinda miss my gmail notifier, adsense stats, IE view, fireFTP, color picker... - Poor German translation in some spots ("Paneele" for panels sounds *so* wrong......) - flickering favicons (on the tabs and beneath the URL, happens when I move across any kind of graphical menue with hover effects) Another thing I'd really like to see is an easy way to have all bookmarks synchronized with del.icio.us as Flock does it. Doesn't work too well there yet, but I think the Opera folks could get this right =) If done well, that would be a reason for switching... What I'm not sure about at all are those new widgets things.... I think I just much prefer the "classic" extension system Firefox and Flock have. In the end the greatest hurdle IMO is the amout of customizing that is required to make it work and feel the way you expect, and while it's great that you can customize almost every bit of Opera this is probably not what most people want to do after installing it, or even expect to be able to do... As a countermeasure, I think it might have been cool to just ask the user what they want their browser to look like - colorful & fresh "Opera" style, or rather something more "classic" without floating toolbars, fading UI controls, etc. [small](Edited by kuckus on 06-28-2006 18:16)[/small]
