Basically it's just that sending XHTML 1.1 as [b]text/html[/b] is against the spec and bad for XHTML (because people learn by example more than anything else). http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml-media-types/#summary [b]application/xhtml+xml[/b], is, of course, not supported by Internet Explorer and while it is technically conformant to get around this by sending your page as [b]application/xml[/b] or [b]text/xml[/b], it is not what you should do - XHTML has its own content type, and that's what you should use for it. Going back down to XHTML 1.0 makes it technically valid to use [b]text/html[/b] again, but again, this is bad for XHTML. This is why if you have no particular reason to use XHTML, and you've got static pages, and you want Internet Explorer support, you may as well just use HTML 4.01 Strict. If you've got a dynamic site, you should be able to figure out how to transform your code to HTML just for IE and send sweet XHTML to decent browsers.
