The site is a personal one, to share photos with friends and family and anyone who loves nature and travel.

The navigation might seem a little confusing but in a sense i don't mind if the user gets lost, as long as they enjoy the photos and enjoy their stay overall (obviously i don't do web dev for a living).

Very nice photos,

There are some validation errors however like not closing ul's or div's but these can be fixed with a little attention. I've noticed you've used XHTML1.1 this may be making things harder for yourself than necessary

Cheers,

Hi and thanks Blaise.

I'll go back and look at the tags when I'm finished adding some content.

Not too sure what you mean about the XHTML1.1 spec - i'll try to check out your links but this might be out of scope for me, it might be too technical for a non-web developer like myself.

Once more, thanks for taking the time to review the site, identify some flaws to fix, and for the links.
Glad you enjoyed the photos, hundreds more to come.

Basically it's just that sending XHTML 1.1 as text/html is against the spec and bad for XHTML (because people learn by example more than anything else).

http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml-media-types/#summary

application/xhtml+xml, is, of course, not supported by Internet Explorer and while it is technically conformant to get around this by sending your page as application/xml or text/xml, it is not what you should do - XHTML has its own content type, and that's what you should use for it. Going back down to XHTML 1.0 makes it technically valid to use text/html again, but again, this is bad for XHTML. This is why if you have no particular reason to use XHTML, and you've got static pages, and you want Internet Explorer support, you may as well just use HTML 4.01 Strict. If you've got a dynamic site, you should be able to figure out how to transform your code to HTML just for IE and send sweet XHTML to decent browsers.

Hi again

I'll have to run the site thru a validator but please keep in mind that these files are created by the server, 90% of the pages are opensource/CMS driven...the only code that i have modified extensively is all css and the php theme templates and the flash page (a flash component).

Right now i'm going to focus on cleaning the photos..i have some adjustments to make on 100's of photos..phase 2 will be learning more about standards/specs to ensure everything is compliant....i do test everything in IE although i develop on firefox.

THANKS for the great feedback!
