some jack hole (that supposedly has never been here before) dug up a 2 year old thread and introduced themselves with "WHAT A BUNCH OF NONSENSE CRAP I'VE READ HERE!" Then, it all went down hill from there.

Someone above mentioned image maps, that they are nostalgic... I actually really dig those! Tell me I'm not the only one enthused about using image maps.... Consider

H1 tag filled with an image select | hide | pop out

Now the select, hide, pop out are cool graphics, drawn in a single graphical template (filling the H1 tag).
Using an image map you apply to this image and now you can create rollovers, and clicks precisely ontop of each of these, giving the user the experience that they are clicking on 3 separate buttons.
Nice stuff.

They can click refresh to restart the marquee from the beginning. One can code the tag so it slows or stops on hover.

What i'm asking is, 'why is the <marquee> tag considered evil, dodgy or bad?' I'm asking about the tag itself, not whether one finds the resulting scrolling text aesthetically pleasing or not.

BTW, I do agree that scrolling text can be annoying most of the time, but this page... http://www.britsuperstore.com/ ... makes good use of the marquee tag (the one top left), there's another at the bottom of the page, and if one feels compelled to read that one.... seek prefessional help! :-)
