Topic: reflections (Page 1 of 1)

For some time now I've seen a lot of sites doing reflections in their graphics like this one...

and I've been wondering if anyone has seen any tutorials on how to render these in Photoshop...I assume many of these images are rendered in 3D software but I'm specifically looking for tutorials on Photoshop. I already know how to achieve this with photoshop...its when you have images like this that I have some trouble's with correct reflections...more specifically when the image is larger and more detail is visible...getting the right reflection look is very hard then.

well I don't have a tutorial but I've done something similar with Lacuna's help.

Make a copy of the image and flip it upside down.

Go to the quick mask edit. It's on the tool bar...I am not 100% sure that's what it's called.

Use the Gradiant with the quick mask so it covers about 3/4 of the image

Go back to the regular view and the mask will go away and you will have a selection of the image.

Now just hit the delete button until you have something of a desired effect.

Last set the opacity so somewhere around 45 to 50%.

Hope that helps & makes sense. I'm not in front of PS so I am not 100% sure I got everything in there. I'll test it when I get home to make sure.

I have done that reflection with the new 3D function in Photoshop CS2 (sorry I don't know how it is called in English). It allows you to create perspective layers. That way it is easy to create a quite good reflection. Simple turn it upside down and use a perspective layer that fits the image. Hard to explain but easy to do actually.
