watch the video. Please!

Hurrah Hurrah.

(not that the other 9 'worst toys' don't each have their own charme - but that advertisement
honestly beats everything I've seen in a while).

The Johnny Reb cannon was a little before my time, but I definitely remember the Battlestar Galactica toys. I had a Viper ship with the missile-launching action. It provided hours of fun until I eventually lost all the missiles around the house. By the time the toy was recalled I didn't have any ammunition left anyway.

And Jarts were awesome. My family played Jarts well into the 90s--pretty much every summer until I left for Korea (and probably after that as well--I seem to remember playing during a summer visit home). No one ever got hurt--I guess it never occurred to my brothers and me to throw them at each other. No, when we wanted to throw stuff at each other we used Frisbees and baseballs. I guess we were more into blunt force trauma.

Lawn darts. Now *there's* a toy. Never heard em called jarts before. Jarts don't kill people, people kill people.

The Johnny Reb was for whimps. Real boys in the sixties, wanting to conquer the whole block not just the street had a Johnny Seven .
In the course of one hot summer school break I went from having a wooden pailing for a "gun" to defend my side of the street to a Johnny Seven OMA (One Man Army) that could:

    launch a grenade

    fire an anti-tank rocket

    shoot an armor-piercing shell

    chuck an anti-bunker missle

shoot 10 bullets as a rifle

make a rat-a-tat-tat sound as a tommy gun

had a pistol that detaches and functions as a cap gun.

Flippin' 'eck, Just looked on ebay and one recently sold for US $593.79.

I have the strangest feeling I have seen that video before, perhaps it was used as an advert over here in blighty

Just last night I remembered a "toy" my male friends used to have when I was about 8-10. If you didn't have a rambo knife, you weren't cool - or you were a girl.

Now THAT's talking seriously.

I remember the cabbage patch doll, that one was in the news a few years ago. Hair... yum.

There was, in the early 80's, a Saturday morning Sci-Fi show I really liked. Don't remember the name of it... other than Captain something... I think.

Anyway, these guys were running around in storm trooper type gear that had these big triangles on their chests. And the deal was, as I recall, you could buy your own personal ray gun, of sorts, that shot out an infra-red beam and if you hit the big triangles with the beam, your tv signal would go all wonky for a few seconds. Like you'd actually shot the guy.

But it didn't last all that long .. something to do with ruining tv sets as I recall.

Captain Jonathon Power and his soldiers of the future. Was very cool. =)
